I have an hourglass shape. I started losing weight at 186, 41-35-44, and wearing size 14. I'm now 167, 39-30-40, and somewhere in no man's land between a 10 and 12. I find waist measurements are very inaccurate for me as a way of determining size because my waist is so narrow compared to the rest of me.

I'm tall -5'10". I have a 37 inch waist and wear a size 16. I think I do anyway. Here is something to think about. My mother, who is 71 years old, is so small that I couldn't find a dress form small enough to fit her wedding dress on. The dress wouldn't wouldn't button around the waist!

I'm apparently tape measure challenged because I get 38".

I am 5'7", currently 208lbs and wear a size 14. I can SQUEEZE into my 12's but they aren't comfortable LOL.

I'm 5'8.5, 234lbs, and I have a 36" waist. I can just now fit a size 18 pants. after reading everyone's response so far, all I can say is that it is different for everyone. I developed a waist after being fat, and I come in quite a bit.

It is so funny how people are shaped so different. . . I was just sized for a bridesmaid's dress and my waist is 35." I am 5'6, wear a size 16, and weigh 189. I'm pretty hourglass shaped (my hips are about 45")

My sister is also standing up in the same wedding. They said that has a 35" waist, is the same height, and only about 2 pounds lighter than me, but she wears a size 12! She has no hips or butt. They make a big difference in your size

Bodies are so weird!

I'm very thick waisted, but when I was 149 pounds I had a 35" waist. I was probably a size 8 or 10.

Now I have a 33" waist and 142 pounds and can squeeze into a size 6. But lowrider jeans are kinder to us thick in the middle types.

I am close to you in size. I am 5'5" and had always been an hourglass shape until I gained over 100 pounds then I became a bottom heavy hourglass . I started with weight at 248, size 20 and my measurements at chest 48" waist 38" hips 51". My current weight is 170 and current measurements: chest 38" waist 27" hips 39-3/4" I wear a size 10 or a small 12. At my absolute smallest I was a chest 36" waist 20" hips 36" I was a size 4/6. Fortunately my mother was a seamstress because everything had to be tailored to adjust for the difference between waist and hips.

I can never go by just waist measurements when buying anything. It really depends on how they transition the waist to the chest or top of hips if I can fit it. I do best with tailored dresses, no sheaths, and low rise jeans just because it depends on the hip bone measurement not the waist.

When I started working out a few weeks ago, my waist measured 36" and I wore a size 12. I am a 10 now but haven't measured my waist since dropping a size.

ETA: When I am measuring my "waist" I am measuring the smallest part around my torso. I am very short waisted, however, so my measurements are probably not good to compare against.

Hi i am 5'4" 145 and have a 33" waist, and i wear a size 8-9. And thats with some fat still( i was at a much larger size (for me(not judging neone)about 38, i believe it was, and i was in a 20...so I think it depends largely on your height as for what size and shape a size 35 inch waist should be. Hope this helps
