I'm doing a bit of catch-up here and just now had the opportunity to read Meg's wonderful post and your responses...

Yup I get the "obsessed" business too...

I guess I must be OBSESSED about brushing my teeth too since I do it at LEAST twice a day, every day. But I guess I'd rather be OBSESSED about dental care given the alternative of having missing teeth, dentures, root canals, and so on.

Let's see how Webster's defines "obsession" shall we???

Main Entry: ob·ses·sion
Pronunciation: äb-'se-sh&n, &b-
Function: noun
1 : a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling; broadly : compelling motivation <an obsession with profits>

Hmmm well I don't see anything "DISTURBING" or "UNREASONABLE" about adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits - I mean look at the 2005 Guidelines For Americans - what are the recommendations for maintaining weight loss - 60-90 minutes of exercise a day? Perhaps this is "DISTURBING/UNREASONABLE" to people who "just can't" or "just won't" do it...it's just easier to poke fun of people who DO take the time to take care of themselves...IMO anyway!

Oh no! Susan Is having a nebulous notion again. Let me see if I can sort it out.
In North America today there is a veritable fountain of information regarding how unhealthy it is to be overweight, how unhealthy it is to be sedentary, how bad fast food is, how bad excess fats are, how bad sugary, fluffy, empty carbs are. The media is full of it. No one should NOT know this stuff, unless they live under a rock.
If we choose to maintain a lifestyle free of these health hazards. We are obsessive?
How about the people who just can't? just won't? choose health? This seems 'disturbing' and 'unreasonable' to me.

In Meg's original post she said .....But always – ALWAYS – it’s someone revealing their own issues. ..... after all they cannot see into your heart for your motivation. What they speak is a revelation of their own intent. Try to think of it like this. They know something is wrong. So far they think it is you ....

Hi all from a lurker soon to be maintainer. Great post Meg. I guess I never looked at it as being obsessed. I'm sure others do but that is the way the world is. There are guys at work that could name every football player in the NFL and tell you what college they played at. Obsessed or just a love for the game? I could tell you the calories for every food and what food group they belong to. Obsessed or love for my self and life? My point is we all have things in our lives that we are obsessed over or dedicated to. What ever you call it, that is just human nature.
