I thought it might help to check in on the weekend. So far today I've been eating well and thoughtfully, and I've also been out and about running errands. I'm about to go off to the library to pick up a book--if the rain will let up again. We have been having unmerciful rain here for the past week.
I am still lurking. I did get through July without adding any more to the number of pounds I want off, that's a small positive. And I am coming to grips with the ramifications of changing jobs and reminding myself at least hourly that I made this choice, knowing fully what I was doing. At least I'm walking a lot more! It has been a challenge to remember to breathe, relax, and make the best of it.
This is the final week of the local pool annual maintenance. I am going to get back in next week and get ready for the September reset. I really miss swimming. I need its head-clearing properties.
My weight is doing its usual, which is staying stable at way too high. Grrr.
I went swimming last week on a trip to the Chicago area. I did a miserable few laps (I'm completely out of practice) and it felt good. Swimming takes away all my aches and pains as well as clearing my head.
Well, the 2 pounds I thought I had lost were just on a mini-break, because they're back despite no difference in my average calorie intake. I exercised quite a bit this weekend as well. It just emphasizes that until I am about 5 pounds down, I can't call it weight/fat loss. It's just my normal churn.
I took today off of my workout as I was very sore yesterday and very tired and felt that a little extra sleep might do me well. I'll be back to it tomorrow.
I've decided to try a version of HIIT to see whether I can get anything out of it. The idea is to increase muscle metabolism and reduce insulin resistance, as I'm sure you folks already know. Right now I'm reading the book I got about it, but I plan to start it very soon--possibly today!
I'll use this thread to update my progress.
Hope everyone is doing well! C'mon and check in, one and all.

Okay okay! I hope you like HIIT. When I started bootcamp classes, the positive changes in my body were almost immediate. My main problem was that the class I took was usually at night, and I found it impossible to get to sleep for about 3-4 hours after the class finished. Now I'm down to once per week (I tried to quit the bootcamp recently, but the instructors talked me into a "custom" membership of one class per week. It was such a reasonable offer that I couldn't say no), and usually in the morning to avoid insomnia.
Allison, I hope you and your family are doing OK right now.
I'm plugging along diet-wise; a few slips but overall I've got the Sugar Beast in check most days. The exciting news for me is that a job just opened at one of the few universities where I really want to work, and in a place where my husband would also love to live. It's a fiercely competitive market, and I've already been rejected by one place a few years ago, so I'm really trying not to get my hopes too high.
My SIL called last night, Dad died peacefully (he was comatose for much of the day). It was hard to get back to sleep and I had half a mind to forget doing my exercises this morning, but I did them! It's better not to make excuses.
