45 minute spin class, with me getting cheated out of my final standing sprint because the strap on my left pedal came undone. I really need clips to fix my shoes to the pedals.
Started the final stage of NROLW last night, which is Stage 7. This one was tough. About one-quarter of the way into it, I wondered if I could finish it, but I just kept going and powered through. I had a rough day at work and it helped to do something physical and to sweat.
38 minutes elliptical, resistance at nine, alternating forward and backward, random intervals. This was so tough, I had to stop. I'd meant to do a full hour. The problem is, I'd done barbell squats and weighted squats with rear foot elevated on Tuesday night, then a tough spin class last night. This morning, my quads were so sore, I had to roll them out and do other stretches before getting on a cardio machine, and used up a lot of my morning gym time.
Ward, enjoy the redoing program. I'll be looking for another one in a couple weeks, since I enjoyed the structure and the measurable progress.
Back at the gym in the evening for an hour-long Pilates mat class.
NROLW Stage 7, workout 2. This stage is not easy. When I was done with this workout, I was done. But I did discover that 1) I can bench-press an 80-lb fixed-weight barbell for eight reps without a problem; and 2) I can shoulder-press a pair of 30-lb dumbbells for the same number of reps. I seem to be in that 60-lb to 70-lb range on everything involving the upper body.
Saef, none of the stages sound easy to me! 80 lbs is amazing in a bench press!
I ran my first 5K this morning! I am in week 8 of the C25K but had been adding on a couple extra minutes running the last week so I would be ready. I finished in 30:10 which I am very happy with. It's my personal best! (but even one hour would have been my personal best since it's my first). I was expecting about 33-36 because usually I am running an 11 minute mile. But the first mile was only 9:30 -- which I guess because there were so many people around you just go faster.
It is still in the 90s with high humidity here so that is what I am used to running in (although I go at 4:30am so it's not too bad). But today was raining and mid-70s! It was awesome. We rarely have a whole day of rain here, and it was just a drizzle so it was perfect.
I am signed up for two more 5Ks, one on Thanksgiving, the Turkey Trot and the second a week later. Going to look for one in October.
Also got my new bike yesterday! It's a road bike. We are planning on riding in the morning but not sure about rain tomorrow.

That's awesome! I'm running a 5k in a couple weeks and hoping for a similar time. I haven't been running so I'll be really lucky if I do.
Sharon, let us pause for a moment and mutually admire each another's physical accomplishments. I would be very happy to run a 5K in 30:10. My fastest time ever in a 5K is 31:39.
Saturday, September 20th:
60 minute spin class, lackluster, obviously yesterday's strength training took a lot out of me
60 minute Pilates mat class, the same.
What I really needed was a recovery day. A long walk would have been the best thing. Now I know. This last stage or NROLW is the toughest yet. There will be no cardio on those days.
My DH has gone for a 2 hour walk 2 X this week. The poodle and I will join him for his third one - he's taking a rest day today - tomorrow. DH!
Dagmar
Great! Glad to hear he is walking!
Went for a 2 hour ride with my new road bike. WOW - it is amazing. We got it at a small bike dealer close by where they professionally fit you. When I had gone to the big bike store in town they said I would fit on a certain size and this guy said I needed to go bigger and then change the handle bar to be less wide. He measured every part of me () and then ordered the bike and parts based on that. So he adjusted it on Friday when I picked it up and today was my first ride. And it was $100 cheaper than the bigger bike store! It is so comfortable! I just have to learn to relax my arms/shoulders/wrists. We went 25 miles in just under two hours which is 5 more miles than we usually do in that time. DH is so thrilled that I am finally riding with him. Been trying to get me to ride for years.
NROLW Stage 7, workout 3, starting later than planned and therefore just missing the Sunday yoga class. By the time I was done, it felt like a good thing not to have done it. This stage is not easy.
Monday, September 22nd:
45 minute spin class at 6 AM, just four of us. Classes are getting sparse because it's so dark in the mornings and so sunny and pleasant in the afternoons. I'm trying to remember when attendance picks up again.
