Wednesday, Aug. 28th:
60 minutes arc trainer, resistance upped to 10, hill intervals, and this felt pretty good, though I sweated so much that I looked like I'd been hosed off. It was the high humidity levels -- the gym had shut off the airconditioning and just opened a door.

60 minutes elliptical, resistance at nine, random intervals, alternating backward & forward, focusing on putting weight on the midfoot, which is somehow harder than it sounds

MBF exercises. Calves still very tight despite serious massage last week and daily stretching. It's affecting my feet, especially my heels, and my ability to do work on one leg. My trainer will have another go at them when I see him next.

7.2k steps, 4.5km, 2.8 miles - mostly whilst blackberrying or moving wood. The DB had a friend round and I had to do emergency cleaning which took up too much time. Cleaning and blackberrying are good for flexibility though.

August 30: 4.5 miles hiking
30 minutes foam rolling
Trying to keep the activity DOWN and rest my aching Achilles for the 1/2 on Sunday. But combine lower activity + some carb loading and I'm just about out of my already crazy mind with guilt and anxiety!!

Jen, you are an athlete in training. You are exerting discipline. It is the opposite of your fears, which, if they're like mine, are always: "Okay, this is it. This is the beginning of the end for me. My will has failed, I will never be able to regain control again, ever, and I am now going to lose all my thin, athletic privileges & my great life that I've built for myself & become a fat woman all over again." That's just fear, that's not the truth. You are an athlete in training doing what athletes always do to perform well. If you had never been fat before, like some fortunate athletes, this would be a different story. But for us, doing stuff like this feels really fraught with danger. When it isn't because athletes do this all the time -- you know what marathon runners look like, right? And they don't look like our worst fears for ourselves at all. You will be okay. You've got this.

Saturday - 90 mins mowing lawn (long grass again) with push mower, raking and moving hedge trimmings with my newly inherited hay fork. It must be about 70 years old and has been in my mum's greenhouse for at least 10. I've cleaned it up and oiled it with linseed oil. It's good to use.
