I have been OP for all of March so far. This is the dreaded 'third night" where I usually cave and eat a lot before bed. I will have a large pot of spice tea to go with the "Walking Dead" this evening, instead of all sorts of carbs.

Off to do my final dog walk of the day with Bulut. She is getting much less fearful of other dogs and is quite playful indoors now. When she first arrived from Istanbul she didn't know what dog toys were or how to play with them. Now she does a good retrieve and likes to be chased around her foster person's living room. She will make a patient someone a good pet with a bit more training.

Apparently the Turkish government had decided that all the street dogs in Istanbul were a problem. Their solution was to make a plan to catch the dogs and ship them out to the "country". And leave them there to starve.

People in Istanbul really like the street dogs. They feed them and put up sidewalk shelters for them. They just don't want them in their homes. So these people didn't want all the dogs to die.

A rescue organization was formed there and they got in touch with another rescue in Canada and Bulut was one of the dogs they picked to come here.

Why her? No idea - she got lucky!

Thanks for the info, Dagmar. I just wondered since we have thousands of dogs looking for a forever home right here in the US . Can't speak for Canada.

Several of our shelters here work to ship dogs to other areas. For example, one shipped a bunch of little dogs to Oregon because Oregon has a lot of big dogs in shelters, but not little ones--so most end up getting adopted. They call these things Adoption Alliances and I think they work to the benefit of the animals they serve.
