Kery - my mom has had to have bone grafts in her jaw to hold implant posts for a bridge. Some is grafted from the roof of her mouth, some is artificial. Th entire process took over a year and had some painful recovery, and was quite expensive. I hope that yours isn't that extensive.

Yeah, well, I too hope it won't be so extensive, because I just can't afford it. Or I'll end up in debt until I'm dead, I suppose. (And I can't even afford to be out of the loop too long regarding my mouth, since I need to actually *talk* regularly to do my job.)

My FIL had a bone graft last year so that he could get an implant (he had lost a crown and there was nothing to attach a new crown to). Although it took a year to heal before they did the implant, I don't think he had much pain.

I guess what's really getting into me is that I'm, what, 33 in a few months? And yet I've got the teeth of a 80-year-old. Somehow it's depressing.
Oh well, let's look on the bright side of life: at least I'm not pigging out, and not gaining weight. XD

Kery, my mother has had the same level of bone loss in her jaw her entire life, it started bothering her in her her late 20's and early 30's, but the technology didn't exist yet for the bone grafts that they can do now. I wouldn't say that you have the teeth of an 80 year old, honey. (Though a predisposition to weak enamel and root structure might not be any better. LOL)
And good job on not pigging out over it, I totally would be.

Oh, I probably would be pigging out... if only I could! But eating has become so unpleasant (yes, even the ice-cream) that I just can't be bothered. I have to be careful every time I munch on anything, so I think it also makes me uber-aware of what I'm doing, which is in totally contradiction with the mindless, numbing aspect of binging in general.
Hm. OK, other positive thought: maybe this is what is finally teaching me to cope without resorting to food? I have to learn the hard way to learn anything at all in life, it seems.

Sounds expensive Kery - . Are there any dental plans where you work that would help with the cost? We have a "state" medical plan (OHIP) but it doesn't cover teeth. Odd that - they ARE part of the body.
I really don't want to go to work today after that long weekend. The dogs will all be totally wound up and crazy. Ah well, I could be a data entry clerk somewhere in a cubicle farm. Much worse, for me, than going to the beach with a bunch of loopy dogs.

I'm still working on that one, myself, Kery, so I say look for any small good thing about your situation that you can find.
We carry a lot of tension in our mouths and jaws. No wonder we want to bite, chew and eat. My dentist is always scolding me about teeth-grinding, overzealous brushing and my bad habit of hours & hours of gum-chewing. He may not be a therapist, but he sees the evidence of my stress and anxiety more than anyone else in my life right now.
As for me, it looks as though I may owe my custom cabinet-maker an apology. He insists he sent a bathroom vanity. It's knocked down, and has to be assembled. Because it so closely resembles the medicine cabinet, and was sent in a rather small box, only thirty pounds in weight, that is what it looked like through the bubble wrap -- as though he'd sent me a third medicine cabinet. The contractor thought that, and I thought that too. But I should have cut through all the bubble wrap that encased it to ensure that my initial perception was correct, and I did not. Now I'm up here and the package is down there. I will have to call the contractor and ask him to get into the package. That is, if he's on site -- since when payments stop, and he lets go of his workmen, he tends to take a few days off.
It's so inconvenient being up here sometimes. I know it's saving me lots of money, but there's a tradeoff.

The ice cream truck is a mostly suburban thing in my area. Never had one growing up since a few too many kids got run over, but I hear the ban was lifted 2 years ago. I was never a big fan regardless, none of the choices were anywhere near as tempting as a big soft serve cone.
I love fruit and vegetables almost indiscriminately. I tend to not buy bananas because they are so starchy. I'm a citrus lover who also gets weak-kneed for blueberries.
Kery, good luck with the bone grafts/teeth...mine are far from perfect too, I'm almost afraid to go to the dentist.

Sometimes a whole bunch of random little things all fall together to produce a totally unexpected result. I had one of those confluences of events about an hour ago.
Won't bore you with all the lead up but I now am a member of the Toronto Windsurfing Club, already have a buddy there, and am planning to take lessons to learn to SUP and windsurf. I am also going to volunteer at the club and my first event is taking place on Sunday June 10.
And no, this isn't a whim. It all has roots in events that took place 25 years ago.

I haven't windsurfed since college. And I was never particularly good at it, either. I couldn't grasp some of the things like tacking, which isn't a good thing! And if it was more than a breeze, forget it! I just wasn't strong enough! Have fun with it Dagmar.

I'm not sure yet. I will go back. Now that my in-laws are gone for the summer I have a lot more "me" time.

Dagmar, your windsurfing signup has inspired me. I've got a Groupon for a horseback ride that I've got to use before the end of the month. I need to call and set that up.
I was a horse-crazy adolescent. When I lost an enormous amount of weight the first time around, in the throes of my eating disorder, one of the few sensible things that I did was enroll in riding lessons at a local stable. I was only able to go one day a week, usually on Sunday afternoons, but that was the sanest time of my life. I only abandoned riding when I moved downstate.
It's been years since I got on a horse. From experience, I know it's not like riding a bike: You really do have to relearn everything. Also, because you're communicating with an animal, you're working with an individual, like a dance partner, so that experience varies also. I am imagining I'll be humiliated. I will see all the effortless, talented 12-year-olds -- which will remind me of my former self -- and that is why I am putting off making the call.
I'd better call right now, while I'm still staring at the screen, and imagining your euphoria while windsurfing.
Otherwise it's another weekend at home, working overtime, maybe shopping a little, and looking at floor tiles, which is my latest assignment from the contractor. Mine are busted up. I'll need new ones. I'm pretty sure I want white hexagonal tiles. But that's not enough to keep a life going, getting overly fascinated by tiny details in decor. Getting on a horse would feel so good ....
Thinking of Dagmar, with her dogs ... and windsurfing ... and reaching for the phone.
