Default I ditched cable :)

Yep. I did it yesterday. Just like that (after being dissatisfied with the whole thing for a while). It's nice this morning with just the radio music on. And I'll have Hulu for when I'm in need of an NCIS fix.

I don't think we have a comparable service to Hulu here in Canada. And we have a basic cable package which is $80 per month. Our telecom industry is very protectionist and they all charge about the same for their product.

Most of it is pretty lousy too. I have now discovered an independent video store not far away from work- $4 per movie and a 5-day rental period. I will definitely be going there. I can rent 20 movies a month and come out abaout the same as the cable.

I need to do that, though I have dish. It's just ridiculously expensive and there is never any good quality shows on at certain times. The money really isn't worth it.

Hi Mudpie and Driven, you know, it is expensive for what it is, plus, there are loads of commercials. I found this morning nice and peaceful; the evening will be strange; last night I watched a movie and I'll pop one in again tonight. But somehow it is different watching a single movie on dvd than having the movie on cable. It's like cable is a connection to lots of unnecessary drama. It was becoming an unhealthful habit for me.

And I feel like now my evenings are open to explore an evening yoga practice

Hope I'm singing a happy tune a couple of weeks into this...

Don't know if you're aware of it, but you can get a fair number of local channels if you get the current version of "rabbit ears". That with my 2 DVDs a month netflix account worked for me for years. Now with many shows being available on line, you really can cut the cable and not miss it much.

We recently got a Roku. It is a little box you plug into your TV that helps you find movies, TV and video online to stream. There are SO many channels on the Roku, many of the choices are free like Crackle and some private channels. You can also stream Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Prime Videos through it as well as other paid programming like Playon. Our Roku was on sale for $89, but it came with Angry Birds and a Wii like game remote for playing games and apps. If you cancel cable and want more online viewing options, it is something you could think about. The Roku doesn't have any monthly service fee..only if you decide to buy an app or the paid programming channels.

Thanks mariposssa, I'll look into it. Seems there are soooo many alternatives to cable that may suite me just fine.
enjoy the day

You know, the past couple of days have been great without cable. I've rediscovered my radio and music for 'background' when I need it, and all of my TV shows on the internet. Plus great exercise/wellness stuff on the gaiam channel on Hulu. And I'm sleeping better 'cause I'm not up late channel surfing.

My next step is to connect my TV to the internet so I can use the large screen.

I found myself looking at the TV set last night thinking....why was I paying all that for cable
