Another compliment from another gymn rat today about my balance and great core stability. Two compliments in two days? None in many, many previous years. It has to be the intense work I'm doing on the bottom, legs, tummy and the hip and calf stretches. Still, I'm amazed.

Becky - my exercises aren't from a trainer but from a physiotherapist (medically trained person). Good luck with the writing. Just do it.

Nice to see the thread waking up again. You know, although I do take the long view, I would like to lose 10lbs quite soon.

It feels fallish. I have pretty red leaves in my front yard and wow! what a gorgeous moon last night!!

Packed my food for today, plans to run with DH after work, rinse, repeat.

Yes, Nanowrimo is like couch-to-marathon. 50k words in one month. I need to go peer at the website. I'm in, Becky!

Glad to see we are all plodding forward. I tend to think onwards, upwards! Mainly cause I see this whole weight loss thing as a mountain, so the climbing analogy works for me.

silver - I stand corrected; there is a big difference between the two! Congrats on the compliments - isn't it terrific when something that feels so good actually turns out to be functional and aesthetically pleasing?

I am with you on the impatience as well. I've been over 150 for way too long, and I don't like it. Pursuit of happiness!

I'll have to check out LoseIt--if it's an Apple product, I'd assume it'd work on my PowerBook.

I'm putting together a picnic lunch to take for the in-laws return on Saturday (DH wanted to stop and pick up fast food and I'd rather do something nice). I could use some suggestions, but so far I'm going to make "fried" chicken (oven baked with panko), potato salad (w/ff mayo), and a black bean, corn and tomato salad. I don't know if I should do a veggie tray b/c the dip just adds fat and calories. Everything will be served cold--I'll do the food the night before. Do I need rolls? Should I have some fruit for dessert? Maybe just some grapes?

Yes! It's one of the things I strive for - in many areas of life actually. One of the many benefits of being brought up by a chartered engineer. (Thought you might find that interesting. )

I have been above my red line for many, many months now. I'd really like to get below it. Bypassed all the stuff I normally crave (left alone as a band widow again tonite) while buying milk and bread at the grocery. I did touch a bunch of things but they were fleeting touches and I didn't pick any of the dangerous items up in my hands. I'm sounding a little here.

And I had one of those funny moments when you realize something for sure. I was walking 2 dogs down the street and saw that someone had dumped a partially uneaten package of twinkies on the sidewalk. One half of a twinkie was lying right outside the package.

I looked at it and my brain said "this in no way resembles a real food item and it's nothing you would ever eat". I'm having more and more moments like these with various "junk" foods. They no longer look appealing or even like food.

I will now go and read my "O" Nov. issue and eat one serving of low fat vanilla yogurt at some point before bed.

Well, jeez. I am under my calories for the day, but I already broke the no-beer pledge. A friend called and had just come back from a funeral; she wasn't ready to go home yet. All I can say is that I savored it slowly. It was a Dark Horse special Reserve Black Bier ... and it was wonderful. Followed by two glasses of water. I am out of practice with discipline!

Discipline is hard. Really, really hard. I like black beer. Have you ever had Kostritzer Switzerbier (not sure of the spelling). It's German. Black but smooth and no bitter after taste.

Allison, the Kostritzer is a staple in our beer fridge. It is a dear, familiar favorite! After Christmas, if you can find Atwater Block (Detroit) Voodoo Vator, it's kinda like Kostritzer on steroids - must be consumed more slowly. Ohhhh, it's going to be a long fall.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll look for it at BevMo some day.

Silver - engineers do have a different way of approaching things! I remember a decluttering rule that was something along the lines of "keep nothing that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." Bonus points for things that can achieve both!

Dagmar - I think the little kid likes to touch and to imagine what things taste like. It's the grownup who assesses the risk/reward. Agreed that a twinkie is not food! My son was dying to try a Pop-Tart because a friend had one, and they were on sale so I bought a box. I had him read the ingredient list first, which got him curious about how bad it was going to be. Two bites into it, he set it down, said "Thanks", and asked if he needed to pay me back for them since he wanted to throw the rest out! Woohoo!

Allison, your picnic sounds divine! What a nice gesture - and shows much more thought and effort than a run through the fast-food window. I've never been a huge fan of rolls, but some people insist a meal isn't a meal without some form of bread. What about something like a cheddar biscuit? Not exactly health food, then, neither is a roll! Grapes are a fantastic dessert, IMHO - just the right level of sweet and juicy. I probably should have clarified with LoseIt - it's an app for iPod/iPad/iPhone. I don't know if that means it would run with a Powerbook or not.

xty, krampus, bronzeager, saef, midwife, and all -

My ticker is again accurate. 6 days to remove the 4 pounds from the dang artificially-colored cake frosting. Funny how "bloaty fat" is so different from regular fat. I never thought I'd be happy to see regular fat again! Now to work on that ...

Hi guys! I have been falling behind on posting (although I guarantee I am reading). Hovering around 136 right now. Want to be 133, don't have the motivation at the moment. At least I'm not gaining, right? I intended to buckle down and count my calories this week but it went out the window when I ended up creating dinner on the fly, which is never a good way to set up for counting calories. For some reason I feel like I need to start on a Monday. Why do I always think that? Thursday is just as good. OTOH I still have leftovers that were not calculated that need to be eaten. Oh well, I should log for today anyway.

My bday gift from DH last month was a spa gift certificate, which I am going to be using this weekend. I hope it will be good! Spas are interesting because the first time I went to one it was a lovely tropical-themed one at the beach in LA, and it was amazing. Nothing since then seems to stand up to it. The ones out here are more of the dim-lighting-glass-of-wine-fluffy-blanket variety, rather than the fruit-juice-sunlight-beach variety. Probably because we are far from the nearest beach. I went to a spa on our honeymoon in the rainforest in Australia, and it was a strange experience because the modesty standards in the US are quite different from in Australia.

I've had the Voodoo vator, I'll have to look for the Kostritzer. Yummy. And yes Becky, discipline is really hard.... (I say as I avoid the dark chocolate covered cranberries from the fall fundraiser in the kitchen with all of my might...)

Thanks for the positive reinforcement earlier this week everyone - I've been kind of down on myself lately, and I'm working (again) on pulling back out from that. I'm about to be on vacation for a week, so might not make it in here much, but when I get back I need to get back into the swing of posting. It gives me a grounding point, which I sorely need right now.

Shannon, . Enjoy the vacation and spend some time reflecting on your awesomeness! I'm finding that my level of dedication, and yes, discipline, is correlated to the time I spend on 3FC.

Jessica, I started back down the right track just by writing down what I was eating - not necessarily trying to figure out portion sizes and calories. That woke me up to the junk ... and from there it was easier to make a little time to take the rest of the steps. Will be waiting to hear details about the spa weekend!

Bloat still coming off, still logging. I no longer feel like I'm straining the seams of my pants.
