I'm here Amanda! Haven't been logging properly since dealing with the dog -- the past few days have been an ordeal of trying to get ourselves to eat enough to have some strength even though we are scared sick. I think if Carter can manage to pee on his own today everything will be much better. We took him outside and let him stand on his own there for about 15 minutes, but still no pee. Bring him in and lay him down, and he's instantly peeing again. I wish I knew why he is holding it when he's standing up!

Monday:
B - oatmeal, raisins, apple butter, skim milk
L - leftover something
D - slow cooker chicken, already cooking, and probably asparagus
E - handling the dog

Does Carter normally lift his hind leg when he pees?

Probably he's holding it because when he stands up there is no pressure and he doesn't realize he needs to go and when he lays down there is pressure and he leaks.

Rehash of the weekend:

Saturday
B~cheese stick
L (late)~broiled salmon, steamed veggies, mashed potatoes
D~wine...oops

Sunday
B~egg white mcmuffin
L~quesadilla
D~raw veggies, cheese, sausage and crackers, 5 shrimp tempura

Monday~
B~grapefruit
L~Smart Ones entree, pear, Activia light yogurt
D~chicken cordon bleu, salad

Tuesday:
B - none, fasting for physical
L - two bagels, cheese stick
D - chicken, rice, butter
E - dog handling

Wednesday:
B - bagel w/butter, cream cheese
L - gnocchi, sauce, chicken, peas, parmesan
S - oatmeal, ls jam
D - prob cabbage soup
E - none

My food log is kind of nuts lately. I lost 5lbs in the past week so I could stand to gain a little weight, so eating full fat cream cheese is okay right now.

Hoping that 48 hours of professional care and catheterization will let Carter recover his ability to empty his bladder. The theory is that it got too full and then his muscles were unable to squeeze it to empty it because they were too stretched out. The idea is that by keeping him empty for a couple days, some muscle tone will recover and he will be able to empty it again. The only reason he was able to pee laying down is because his bladder was so full that it reflexively empties some to avoid overflowing, not because he was actively trying to pee while laying down. Laying down everything is downhill from the bladder whereas standing up it has to go uphill a little first.
