Midwife, I've got to thank you for this thread. I was sitting at my desk at work this afternoon, tired and cranky, wanting to get a peanut butter cup from the candy jar after staying away from it all week. Even though it's not technically Halloween candy, this thread made me walk away from the jar, eat my snacks of cherries and lowfat yogurt, and head to the gym. Thank you!
I feel like every time I take this pledge it's just asking me to fail... but, I've got to try my best. No Halloween candy for me. And good luck to all of those who've taken the pledge - we can be strong!
I too, am feeling very vulnerable right now, not eating like a maintainer but more like a dieter who has finished her diet. I KNOW BETTER!
Well, our m and m's are finished. I pledge to abstain from any of our campfire smores leftovers and remember that I have a WOE that suits me very well.
Thanks midwife- I need a real kick in the pants!!!
ETA: oh yeah, I pledge to avoid all halloween candy, until the day of where I will eat and CHART 2 or 3 pieces of mini candies.

I think this is my first post, but I promise no Haloween candy shall pass my lips. I've just taken off 30 pounds and with counting calories I've maintained for 7 weeks so far. Hoping to keep on keeping on.
I don't make those kind of pledges.
My Maintenance lets me live from day to day...
eat whatever, I choose at the time, just avoid binge eating.
Some foods are harder to eat less of, than others,
but nothing is absolutely-forbidden-forever.
Sometimes candy is included as a possible food choice, and sometimes not.
All calories get counted while working to keep them at my maintenance average.
Bottom line:
Sometimes I eat rich candy.
Sometimes I eat sugar-free candy.
Sometimes I eat no candy.
Since I don't have to wait for "Special" days to have candy,
and I feel free to choose to have it frequently if I want to trade it for something else,
candy no longer has that "Hammer" over me.
Sugar tastes really good, and it raises a few mental hormones, but
the truth is that...the sugar in candy is NOT on an equal basis with
alcohol, or an illegal or prescription drug.
It isn't "TRULY" a mind-altering substance.
I always have a choice...even after one bite or one piece...
One bite neither FORCES or PERMITS me to have a candy binge.
I've decided to be finished with that all-or-nothing-mind-set.

One Halloween I made one of those cat litter cakes.....where you crumble a cake into a (new) litterbox and serve it with a (new) catbox scoop. We warmed tootsie rolls in the microwave and shaped them into cat poop. Fun times, fun times.
that is a great party idea!! But not for moi I just mentionned it to DD it could be a good party idea!!!
I will also pledge to no Halloween candy!!! I hate this time of year, seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to go to sleep and wake up in Feb....

lol I've seen a cake like that before
When I used to teach wilderness skills, animal tracking was a part of it and I used to have volunteers make scat out of tootsie rolls and set them in obvious places on the trail I stopped eating them around that time too!
Luckily we live out in the boonies so no trick or treaters....so all I have to worry about is candy for that night. Last year my kids cashed in most of their candy with their dentist. He has a candy buy back program & they traded it in for toys
Thanks, I needed a laugh this morning. Love the kitty litter/tootsie poop cake thing.
I walked into my regular supermarket on Friday morning to get a salad and ! There were the boxes of mini chocolate bars, right by the entrance.
AAARRRGH!!!!!
Those have been my failure in the past years. I can stay away from almost all kinds of candy but not those.
I tend to buy the Halloween candy in advance. I tell myself I want to avoid the rushing around at Halloween. That's b*llcr*p!
I always eat the first box about a week after it hits the house. Then the second box gets found by DH and eaten by him. The kids trick or treating get the third box.
This year I am taking the Halloween candy to my dad's (he's diabetic and really has the self-control to stay away from it) and picking it up on the day of the holiday.
I will select 4 mini chocolate bars and eat them very slowly and enjoy them a lot after all the kids have been and we've brought the pumpkin in. Then the leftovers immediately go to the food bank's drop box.
