Marie-- If it is free for you I would do it! I lost my weight on WW and I work part-time for them now. I still go to meetings. You hear great ideas, food finds, recipes, etc., and it helps to keep me focused and motivated. They won't let you officially join unless you are overweight though so I'm not sure how they would handle you. I'll check the minimum joining weight for you when I go to work tonight-- you might be right at it. I'll get back to you on it.

Thanks Michele. A minimum weight? I hadn't heard that before for WW. Interesting!

Jessica, good luck with TIT. I did a half marathon with them, and had only a so-so experience. I did raise about $3100 though, which pleased me. This is a group that helps support research about the cancer my DH has (now in remission).
Dagmar - good luck to your DH in his exam. And enjoy the good night's sleep.

Marie-- the minimum joining weight for your height is 133 so you can join if you weigh what your profile says.
WW has a minimum joining weight so that people who are anorexic don't join and try to lose weight. They also have minimum weights to maintain for "lifetime" members like myself (healthy BMI). For my height, the minimum I can weigh is 120 (with clothes and shoes if I want).

Good Morning!
The cats and I had a really good night's sleep and I feel much better. We went to bed at 9:30 and woke up at 5. That's an awesome amount of sleep for me!
My plan to snack on fruit last night went a little awry . I was trying to stay awake and was too tired to read so I turned on the TV. Big mistake! Out came the popcorn, followed by cheese.
I know better. I'm starting to bore myself by repeating this same behaviour over and over again. I did try one of the computer mind puzzles I found through reading (getting word definitions right and donating rice to feed the hungry as a result - freerice.com). I'm going to keep the computer on 'til bed time and play around with those instead of TV.
The new size 8 jeans that came via online order last night are really snug. My goal is for them to be comfortable by the time I go on vacation. Otherwise I guess I wear shorts .
Gotta go give DH his wake up call - I'm 2 of 5 wake up calls he's using to make sure he's up and awake by exam time.
There are going to be big changes in our life together after today. Good changes !
Great hump day all!
Dagmar

Michele, thanks for the information. I will look into WW and see if there is a lunchtime meeting. I do think it would be cool to be accountable. I didn't have trouble losing the weight but this maintaining is like a yo-yo. I'm an one day and a the next.

Marie Staying the same weight hasn't got quite the "zing" seeing the lbs. drop away has, does it? I too tend to be an for a few days and then think aha, now I can cheat and be a and wind up in the same place. Not as healthy a lifestyle as I could have.
So DH thinks he passed the exam . Now 10 more months of the program remain and then he "graduates" in Sept. 2011.
We will celebrate properly next weekend - I have to work this weekend doing a dog sit and DH will still probably have this horrible cold for another 4-5 days at least.
I know he's going to eat/drink all sorts of awful things for the next few days but I'm keeping the old yap .
I too still see chocolate cake and red wine as celebratory, rather than celery and juice .
Have a great night all!

LOL Shannon!
Marie, thank you for mentioning Birkenstocks! My arch just started bothering me the other day. I read your post, dug my Birks out of the closet and have been happy ever since. I've missed them.
Bargoo, I am going on vacation next week and hope I can manage it as successfully as you have!
Dagmar, congrats on making it through DH's exam! My DH has sat for a few doozies during our time together, and I know how trying it can be.
Sheila, I love that you are baking for the fair! We are headed to our county fair tomorrow and I am determined to tour the craft exhibits and see that side of it. My DD's beloved preK teacher enters some projects and I'd love to see them! Please send your crumb pie to me. I will put a blue ribbon on it before I devour it!
Am pondering how to stay on plan at the fair... I think I will pack my lunch and plan my calories so I can have an ice cream cone. I love soft serve!

Amy, I think Birks are the greatest. I always associated them with hippies and now I'm one. Good planning will make you successful at the fair.
Dagmar, I think you nailed it about the zing being gone from that figurative pat on the back from the scale. Seeing the same number just doesn't pack the same punch. If you figure out how to find celebrating with celery and juice as tasty as choc cake and wine, let me know. Then I'll be able to apply it to make the same number pack the same zing. Actually that one is probably easier to do. Celery - yuck!

DH is pretty sure he passed but we find out "officially" in November. Once he's over his cold he'll start fretting about that.
I'll have him so busy with his new weight loss plan (charts, calories, meal planning, determining portion sizes, etc. etc.) that it'll be much lower stress fretting.

Morning all,
Still hot here. Yesterday we had to drop someone off at the dock early because she was feeling heat stress, then ended up taking in the whole boat early. So we'll take an extra day to finish the project for the month - not a big deal, it's better than us all getting heat stress! Got to go back out there today. I felt ok so I did go to the gym after work. That's 3 days in a row so far this week.
Dagmar, so glad DH thinks he did well! I hope things are less stressful and calm down around your house now.
Marie, why not give WW a try if it's free? If you don't enjoy it, nothing lost, but maybe you will.
Jessica, good luck with TIT (don't worry Shannon, you're not the only one snickering). It sounds like a great opportunity to help a good cause and further your own athleticism.
Must run to be out in the Good day all!

Good morning! I've been up since 5:30 am, got DSS ready for school and decided to workout instead of going back to bed. I always feel productive when I work out in the morning.
DH is going to the doctor, is there right now. He has developed a weird fluttering in his chest, figure it is a minor arrythmia that will fade, but with the burning and 911 on Saturday + the respiratory infection and asthma attack + this new development I want him to get looked at by a professional. So far everything seems fine - BP, pulse, heart rate, oxygen level are all good. I figure that they are about to run an EKG, so we'll see what they say. He has lost 16 pounds since his last visit and lowered his bad cholesterol by 30 points & raised his good by 8 points in the last six months. So he is in the best shape he has been in for a while. I hope he is just having some minor asthma symptoms that pass...
I do love the work that Team In Training does, and I'm glad I'm not the only one snickering. I got a letter from "Run For Something Better" and am considering signing on with them to train for my marathon in March. They work with childhood obesity.
Dagmar - hope that DH did as well as he thinks on his exam!
Marie - WW couldn't hurt, though you might feel a little out of place already being at goal?
Megan - be careful out there in that heat!
Good d
Amy - enjoy the fair! I think packing lunch and planning for ice cream is a fantastic plan.
I also love Birks - I need to get a real pair. I wore mine slap out in college, replaced them with a pair of knock offs because I couldn't afford a new pair, haven't gotten new ones to replace those. Heck, my knock offs are still comfy after ten years.
Pat - how are you feeling today?
Good day everyone!

I have never liked Birkenstocks. I do like Teva sandals, but don't currently own a pair. I actually like flip flops better than sandals that hold you in, and I haven't been to a Birkenstock store to see what they have in that line. I guess my biggest dislike is that most of them are brown and I just don't wear brown. I like black. Weird, I know.
I wish I could get up at 5:30! On my workout days I'm up before 4:30 and non workout days is 5 AM. I'm showered and my hair is dry by 5:30 and then it's feed the animals, read the paper, check my email, get the boy up (on school days) and get his breakfast, make the bed, do my hair (I have to let my scalp cool down before I iron it otherwise it just gets all kinky and that takes the paper reading time to do, even if I've blown it dry). Then get dressed, fix my own breakfast and off to work. I usually leave right after 7 AM. I dream of the days when I wasn't working and I'd get up at 6ish, get the kids to school, come home and spend an hour or more walking the dogs, then come home and relax by the pool with the newspaper. Oh, the good old days!
Oh, I had the most fabulous pasta dish last Friday and decided it had to be simple enough to copy, so I did that last night. It turned out pretty good, although I'm going to change it up a bit next time. Basically it's a couple small zucchini, halved and sliced, 1/4 c each (or more) sliced onion, yellow pepper, red pepper, orange pepper. I sauteed the hard veggies and some garlic for 5 minutes in some olive oil, then added some canned tomato (this time it was an Italian tomato puree, next time I'll do chopped canned tomatoes as I like it chunkier), Then I threw in the zucchini, a little red pepper flakes, some salt and pepper and simmered it until the pasta (penne) was done. I made bruschetta while that simmered. Just before serving I threw in a little fresh basil. I think next time I'll add even more veggies--it was so yummy!

Megan, DD and I got "fakenstocks" in Thailand. They are as comfy as my real ones. The only give away that they aren't Birks are the bottom tread doesn't have their logo. Even the buckle does.
Allison, Birks come in all tons of colors. I have in sandals: pink, green, white, another white, black, blue and tan. In my real shoes, I have brown, black, another black (diff style) brown and another brown. BTW, I love my TEVA sandals but haven't worn them this year. I have too many birks so I need to give them fair share wear time.
WW - I checked the meeting times and there are two in town. Neither time is one I can attend. Also, I tend to agree with Megan that I might feel out of place to be a newbie. Also I don't want to do points. I know the cals of everything I eat and I don't want to change. I had contemplated asking my overweight co-worker if she'd want to go together. I admit, I chickened out. I'm a buck-buck chicken.
