Morning.

Sheila - Alaskans know better than to plan things for August weekends - it's our rainy season - and living up to it this week. My garden is very happy though, even it the dampness brings out the slugs - ewwww. I was out picking a bunch of lettuce for one of the gilrs at work and while it wasn't raining, it had been all night and all the plants and bushes were dripping. My flowers have pretty much had it, all the blossoms have either come off or are waterlogged. Only hanging basket that is partially protected by the roof overhang still looks decent. The lawn however, is lush.

Megan - sounds like you're keeping busy and not sitting around feeling sorry for yourself - good job!

Shannon - hope you find a way to make the ball game work. I remember going to Red Sox games with my grandfather - a big treat for a kid.

THe cats had me up at 1; 15, 4 and 4:45, and there was no way I was getting up to go to the gym, so I'll go tonight. It's the first night this week I haven't had another commitment. Last night's reception (for a municipal officials meeting hosted by the city, about 90-100 participants) was very nice. They had ordered large tents knowing that weather is unpredictable. It had stopped raining about 3 or 3:30 (reception was 5:30 - 7), and held off til about 8 which was good since the golf course (where it was held) offered all the participants a chance to use the driving range. The clouds even lifted enough so they could see the mountains. THe food was awesome - and very "friendly" - well, except maybe the wine . I had shrimp, chicken salad, fruits, raw veggies and some chicken on a stick. I took a piece of crab/mushroom tort/quiche sort of thing, but it was kind of flavorless, so one bite did it for me. Nice to leave an event like that not feeling stuffed.

Hey y'all, just checking in and then will probably be MIA until Thursday - I'm doing some rural work so probably won't have internet again, but I am back in AZ.

Megan, sorry to hear about the rough times with your BF, I really hope things work out. It's great that you are spending time with friends, it's definitely better than being isolated and thinking all the more about things.

I agree w/ some of you on the "processed" taste, but I'm still all for the real-deal from scratch sweets and junk food. I almost bought a pack of ho-ho's at a gas station on the drive here but reminded myself that they probably wouldn't taste good anymore, anyway. But I'm glad I didn't buy them and find out! I had a banana instead, and fruit IS much tastier. =)

Popping in quickly with an update.

Yesterday in Montalcino (sp?) we stopped for a light lunch. I had the most amazing peccorino "flan" served over a bed of shaved pears that were drizzled in olive oil. I can truly say this has been my favorite so far. And yes, I am partaking in the Italian ice cream (gelatto). I've had pistachio, banana and lemon. My friend tried trofutto (truffle) that was probably the best thing I've ever tasted. Today is Il Palio so it will be a day of confusion to say the least!

Well, barring thunderstorms the baseball game is on for tonight. DSS is taking a nap now, but we still figure he will only last a few innings at an 8pm game. I'm a little nervous, but we'll see how it goes. He is pretty excited about going to the game, and keeps talking about wanting to have Cracker Jacks & watch the baseball men. (His mommy told him you eat Cracker Jacks at the ballgame...)

Keep your fingers crossed for no rain until after the game!

So cute! Keeping my fingers crossed. Good that he is taking a nap so he won't be too tired.
