No Excuses! Maintainers Food & Exercise Accountability 4/13-4/19/09
I guess I'll start the thread this week! Neither BF or I are particularly attached to Easter or Easter food, so it was just a normal day for us yesterday. I'm also glad no candy has appeared at the office. I went a little over my calorie allotment to 2200 cals Friday night for his birthday dinner - really he was delayed b/c his truck broke down so dinner wasn't until 8:00, so the snack monster had some trouble waiting so long. That is my high-cal day for these two weeks, and they were healthy snacks, and that's that. The rest of the weekend was OP.
How did everyone fare for the holidays?
Amanda, how is your family doing?
Monday's plan:
B - oatmeal, skim milk, banana, coffee w/ 1 T. h&h
L - 1 1/2 cups white chili w/ ground chicken and beans
Snacks - 6 oz. lowfat yogurt, 1 1/2 cups pineapple, 1 oz. raw walnuts
gym - cardio today - going to try to run!, abs
D - turkey burgers on light wheat bun, roasted squash & zucchini
Dessert - sugar free jell-o

Food & Exercise Availability or Accountability, Megan? Whoops! Why can't you change the title of a thread that you made in edit mode? Doh...

I've been available for food all weekend, but not available for exercise since Thursday! I'm up for being available for exercise this week!
Today:
Exercise - strength training and hopefully cardio when I get home today. Pretty bad storm this morning so I sat in my room and listened to the wind and hail instead of exercising...
B: PB&J and Snickers egg... same store resulted in power out, so no smoothie and no coffee... grumpy morning...
S: south beach snack bar
L: grilled chicken salad
S: Kashi Go Lean
D: big salad with chicken, turkey pepperoni, pickle, broccoli, carrots, tomato, nothing fancy...
S: I should be honest with myself, probably a small piece of Easter candy...

There comes a time when we all need to stop saying "I wish" or "I will", and start saying "I am", so we can later say "I did".

Megan, I wouldn't have even noticed the Availability part.
I've been making some very odd food choices lately, and by odd, I mean, junk food, and health food, but too much of both and both late afternoon binge-style episodes. I haven't gotten on the scale because I am scared to see a number I don't want to see (yup---DENIAL!), so I keep telling myself I will weigh after I have a couple days POP---but then those days don't happen so I keep putting it off.
Fear? Denial? Hiding from the truth? I do NOT admire these traits in myself and now I am annoyed with myself.
So....tomorrow am, the scale. Like it or not. I won't avoid it any longer.
Today:
eggs, beans, a little cheese, green chile
cc/berries, walnuts
protein pancakes with blueberries
turkey, apple
And then--THIS IS MY PROBLEM! So I will eat that, pick up kids at 3:30, then Girl Scouts til 5, then home to get DS ready for soccer at 5:45, then home at 7 pm but I won't want to eat at that time cause I go lift weights at 8 pm and will want to barf if I eat after 7. So, then I freak myself out that I won't have a decent dinner until after 9, and then I won't be hungry anyway, but I'll have a protein shake due to the weights, and then....no dinner. Maybe I will turn my turkey/apple snack into a ginormous salad with lots of spinach and tomatoes and egg whites and turkey and then have my turkey/apple snack while DS is at soccer. On these days that we are so busy, 3:30-9 is my problem time. Not so bad if I can get a "real dinner" but when I know I won't be able to pull it off, I panic and eat whatever is available and easy.....sometimes those are healthy things and sometimes not. 3 times a day I like to have the experience of sitting down and taking my time with my meals....I think I need to move my #3 "meal" to my afternoon "snack" slot and then have my afternoon "snack" on the go in the early evening. I'll try it today and see what happens.

I fixed the thread title though rather liked the "Availability" part.
Midwife, take it from one who has seen many, many well-deserved scale upticks -- it's much better to face reality now and own it than to put it off. There's something about seeing the number in black and white -- no matter how bad it is -- that makes it real. And once you see it, then you can tell yourself that no matter how bad it is, it will be better tomorrow and the day after and the day after. Not weighing lets us continue to live in the Land of Denial and we all know where that got us.
I'm not sure if you're usually a daily weigher or not, but if you are, it's especially important to keep weighing daily when you're struggling. That little reality check can keep one or two pounds from turning into five or ten or worse. There's are mornings that I have to force myself on the scale, but I do it and log my weight on my weight chart every day. And there's just something about seeing it that makes me better able to deal with it.
It sounds like you've figured out your problem time and your plan sounds good, so ... Be sure to let us know how it goes!

Hi, so... my three day holiday/vacation weekend.... could have been better - could have been MUCH worse too. On Friday morning I was thrilled to see 131 on the scale for the first time since Christmas. I did fairly well most of the weekend -- 7 out of 9 meals anyhow.
Saturday evening I was famished and stressed when I got to the restaurant where the rest of the family was eating. I had to rush order, and picked a BLT - wouldn't have been a bad choice if I'd said left off the mayo and ordered a salad as the side. But I let myself give in to temptation and ordered french fries for the side (FF are one of my REALLY hard to resist foods), plus I forgot about requesting no mayo till it got there - and I ate all of it, including a small dish of ranch dressing that one of my DDs ordered and hadn't eaten.
Last night I told DH "pick up whatever you want for dinner on your way back from dropping off the RV". He came back w/Ezells fried chicken. I ate a leg and a thigh, and 1/4 of one of their huge rolls. Then after dinner we gave the girls their Easter baskets, and I ate an entire package of Sugar Babies. Ugh!
This morning I had to force myself to get on the scale - but I know "I'm not going to look until I've been OP for a day or two" turns into eating badly for more and more days, so I weighed - 132.5, up 1.5 since Friday. Hopefully some of that is water and will disappear by tomorrow, but I know some of it is just overeating.
Today:
LOTS of water!!!
Ex: 25 min cardio/strength training w/exerciseTV
b: 1/2 eng muffin w/turkey sausage
skipping snack
l: spinach salad w/free range chicken from Whold Foods and Annies Raz Vinagrette
s: if I have anything, it will be fruit or yogurt
d: Tonight we're celebrating my youngest DS's 21st birthday and his GFs 19th birthday. So, it will be their choice what we have for dinner - they are vegan, but that doesn't mean low cal. There will also be vegan blueberry pie, tofutti ice cream (vegan), and vegan cupcakes (his GF makes incredibly moist and tastey cupcakes). I must be strong! I WILL BE strong. I will make HEALTHY choices. I will continue to chant these things to myself all evening.

Thanks, Meg. I have been a pretty faithful/nearly daily weigher and I know that I am being a total wuss about facing reality. Denial got me over 200 lbs, it will NOT take me back there! We need a tiger smiley! Ok, not as fierce as I hoped, but I got the eye of the tiger back, baby!

I am around but with a killer migraine...got in 45 min of my planned cardio, and if I can get my head to stop throbbing, I'll do another 45 later. So far, I ate half of Sarah's breakfast (egg white omelet, slice of toast w/ pb). We're planning a salad for dinner. Lunch I think will be a tuna sandwich.

Monday
B – Voskos non fat Greek yogurt with honey, ½ package sliced strawberries
S – went downstairs to the cafeteria, got a steak salad. It was supposed to come with blue cheese dressing, but I got a little cup of balsamic vinaigrette on the side. I picked off half the blue cheese crumbles. It came with a French roll, I ate half. The salad was actually pretty good – romaine, caramelized red onions (I am SO going to do this for my salads), tomatoes, black olives and a few pieces of rare steak.
S – cocoa
S – tangelo
S – cheese string
D – making turkey meatloaf muffins (boyfriend request). I’m just going to steam some sugar snap peas to have on the side. Trying to take it easy this week since I’m headed to TX on Friday! I want to fit in my dress for the memorial.
*UPDATE* change of dinner plans. Ended up going to Jalapenos. I had the carne asada plate. I made 2 soft tacos with corn tortillas, salsa, carne asada, lettuce and some guac. I had about 5 bites of beans, did not eat any rice and asked for no cheese. I have plenty of carne asada left over for meat for 2 salads this week.

Hmmmm, we had a nearly uneventful weekend. Saturday night I fixed a shrimp and white bean dish from Eating Well. Then yesterday, I made a grilled chicken, ww pasta salad with a light Asian Sesame dressing and a little peanut sauce, had mine over a large green salad. Brunch at church was, um, let's say not too unreasonable. I had 2 hard boiled eggs, a slice of ham, some banana and grapes, and 1.5 cinnamon rolls (ordinary size, not gigantic!)
B - cheerios with 1/2 small banana, 1/2 oz walnuts, skim milk; small apple muffin (homemade);
S - ff latte
L - turkey sandwich on ww, with lettuce, tomato, banana peppers
S - apple
D - lefovers from one of the two dinners above.

I've had 5 cadbury mini eggs, a ThinkThin chocolate brownie bar and one baked chicken nugget in addition to my planned food so far today. Still actually keeps me on track calorie wise to come in under my target if the rest of the night stays on track. I also ran 3.5 miles on the treadmill when I got home. Baby steps back onto my path.
Amanda - hope your head feels better. Mine has been screaming all day today, too.

Well, my plan worked out well today. I made a huge spinach salad with salmon, egg whites, avocado, onions and tomatoes before the afternoon madness started and was very satisfied. When I made dinner, I gnoshed on some more egg whites (hey, we boiled > 72 eggs for Easter), light laughing cow, an apple, and a tsp of peanut butter. It was a really perfect combo to keep me out of junk food. Also, I am very determined today, so that helps. I'll finish my protein shake, off to bed!
