Good morning! How was Valentine's Day ? We've had a houseful of company all weekend and it was a non-event for DH and myself. After 30 years of marriage, that's about what I expected.

I started my long hours at work last week and it's not much fun. I haven't had time for the gym for a few days and my knees are yelling at me for being inactive. But I'll get there today after the last guest leaves!

I feel so behind in everything so I'm off to catch up on my reading here and then to plan menus for the week.

Grab a mug of coffee (or tea) and let us know how you're doing.

Default I CAN believe I ate . . .

. . . all the chocolate . That's why I got myself just 12 pieces. I did manage to spread them out over the weekend and am still at 133 lbs, just the same as before the weekend

I really missed my yoga and strength workouts during the dog sit and got one of each in over the weekend.

DH has just changed his work week and study plans yet again. Looks like I'll really be single until the middle of June.

I will be doing some whining here about being lonely from now until then. If I do it too frequently someone please give me a to move me forward.

Cooking is going to be tricky since I've got to make everything so that he can reheat whenever it is he gets home that particular night. I think I will give myself a break on the nights I'm tired or working late and tell him he has to get his own dinner sometimes.

I will be receiving my pump action salad spinner any day now and I will start pre-washing lettuce and things and storing it in "veggie" bags. I will be eating a lot more salad soon. Don't know if DH will follow my example but that's not my problem.

I am planning my spring diet/maintenance schedule now and will probably implement it once Daylight Savings flips over to an hour ahead again. I'm hoping I'll then be getting up at 5:30 a.m. and able to do more things in the evening.

Off for another yoga session. We have a new stat holiday today - "Family Day" - and I'm only walking about half the dogs so I have some extra time.

Have a great Monday all!

Dagmar (no more chocolate - this week )

Good morning!

I am sorry about those work hours, Meg. I hope it changes soon.

Dagmar, sounds like you have a good plan.

Today's my son's 5th birthday. His party was yesterday and he was so excited. There's entirely too much cake and leftover Valentine candy in my house right now. I think I had my fill over the week-end, though. My husband is home today so I'll be able to do a double workout this morning, plus I ran 8 miles yesterday so I hope there wasn't too much damage done.

Have a great day!

Anybody know what the deal with preschoolers celebrating Valentine's day at school is? It just seems a little weird to me. No candy here at home, since it is pretty much a non-holiday for us. DH did get me a nice framed picture of the kids.

I think our sicknesses are almost gone finally. DS is off to day care, and I'm heading back to work after my morning zombie fest.

Meg, think of all the clothes you can get with the extra cash when this is over!

Dagmar, I love that the salad thing is your husband's problem and not yours! Sorry to hear you'll be lonely for a while.

WardHog, happy birthday to your son. Husband being home sounds like a great opportunity to get in that workout. I'm jealous of the 8 miler.

Anne

Ward, your house sounds like mine, what with birthday cake and candy!

I think this week might be the week where I finally see 140-something on the scale, if I stay consistent with my behaviors. Cool.

Well, I wanted to let you all know that the pornographic poltergeist struck again! Some of you may recall the poorly drawn penises (peni?) on my garage door and stop sign and the Playboy page on my doorstep. Well, Sat night (dh was at a friend's studying and my 2 older kids were off skiing, so I was home alone with the little ones)....anyway, the doorbell rang and when I answered it, there was a condom water balloon on my porch.

So I put on my jacket and stood in a dark corner of my porch. About 5 minutes later, 4 mid-school age boys strolled by with their skateboards. The conversation went thusly:

Me: Hi guys, whatcha doing?
A Boy: Oh, nothing! We're just walking up this way.
Me: Did you guys leave anything at my house?
A Boy: Oh, no, we're just walking up this way. We're going to Scotty's house.

Anyway I thought it an odd exchange....if they were innocent wouldn't they wonder why the heck a crazy lady was standing on her porch talking to them? I'm pretty sure it was them.....so perhaps I should see where "Scotty" lives.....It was dark and they headed up the street and stood outside a house just at the edge of where I could see them. I couldn't leave the little kids alone or I would have followed them most likely.

Anyway, just wanted to update you all!

Have a good week!

My question exactly. One of my preschoolers asked what he'd be getting for valentine's day. I told him it was a grown ups' holiday- one for mommies and daddies. Then I read this big article in the newspaper which described how wonderful it is that Vaentine's day had become a family/kids holiday..

then my 7 year old comes home from school with a bag filled with sugar. I actually learned this all last year. Parents were instructed to have chldren do Val. cards for the whole class to avoid hurt feelings. I had my kindergarten age boy cut out hearts and write a short message. He came home with a bag of sugar and told me he was the ONLY one who did not give a sweet with the note.

It is ridiculous in my book too.

Good morning everyone,

BF & I celebrated w/ our lobster dinner Friday night and it was delicious! He also brought me flowers but no chocolate...which honestly skinny Megan thought was good, fat Megan deep inside was a little disappointed. But in any case I didn't have any chocolate, but BF and I had a nice, romantic evening. Saturday was just back to normal.

Sunday afternoon I felt like I had entered a bizarre world at my first weightlifting contest training session. It was me, Tim, (the now former gym manager, he just quit) who is a big burly muscular guy, and 4 other big burly muscular guys. Now I thought I had learned the secret handshake, passed the test, was no longer intimidated by the historically "man section" of the gym, but oh boy. As I stood there watching Tim benchpress 615 lbs, all I could think was, h@#$ cr@#! I think I did ok but I was very quiet! Tim already has me benchpressing more than I've ever benched and is meeting me Tuesday to work on my deadlift (that contest is bench and deadlift only).

midwife, I thought those hoodlums were leaving you alone! Have any of your neighbors gotten similar harassment? At least if it's middle school kids they seem (fairly) innocent... you need to go find those kids mothers and talk to them!

I remember exchanging Valentines in first or second grade, but all I remember is that you had to give one to everyone in your class (to avoid having a kid who didn't get any at all) so the teachers would pass out lists of the names of everyone in the class and Mom would buy me a box with enough for everyone. The occasional chocolate taped to the Valentine was the best! I don't remember doing it before I could write people's names, though! Pre-K seems extreme.

Have a great week everyone.

Slow day at my job today, since it's a holiday. No doctors are dictating!

We used to celebrate Valentine's day in preschool with a party and communal valentines. No individual ones. It was always fun, and no one felt left out.

Dagmar - I ate too many chocolate chips and cashews yesterday. DH and I didn't even get each other any chocolate, but there were chips in the house (and still are). Ugh.

Ward - happy bday to your son!

midwife, do you think it was kids that young? Sounds more like a teen prank to me.

Megan - sounds like you had a great valentine's day!

Morning everyone... I feel like I'm the only person in the world working today, which I know isn't actually true - more places don't have President's Day as a holiday than do - but DH, his ex, my MIL and both my parents are off today... At least DH brought me back a great sugar free skinny latte after dropping DSS off at daycare...

Meg - you have had your hands full this last week with more hours and house guests! Are you going stir crazy?

Dagmar - sorry you are going to be solo for a while - I know that is hard. DH may be going back to school soon, too, so I'm looking at the same thing. LOL on the DH salad buy-in!

Wardhog - happy birthday to your baby! Having birthday cake and Valentine's candy in one weekend - wow!

Anne - I was stunned Friday afternoon myself when my not yet 4 year old DSS came home with a box full of Valentine's cards and candy. His teacher made up gift bags full of candy for each child, almost every Valentine's had candy on it. We have no idea if he took anything in or not, his mom didn't mention it. She did make iced heart cookies, so I'm figuring he must have taken those in. I had no idea that they were exchanging Valentines so young...

Midwife - middle school boys never change... I'm picturing you in a trenchcoat and a dark hat following them down the street waiting to see where they go....

kitty - If we had made cards for DSS we wouldn't have included candy either. We weren't allowed to put candy on the cards when I was in school, and I don't like the fact that it is expected now.

Megan - DH and I weren't going to do candy for Valentine's Day and then I went out and bought it... I'm still intimidated by the 'man' section of the gym.

Good morning!

Meg, Valentine's Day is a non-event for us, too. Bummer about not having time for the gym.

Dagmar, sorry you have to be "single" until June. Whine away! Do those veggie bags really work? And does a salad spinner work for romaine lettuce? Never had one.

Wardhog, happy belated birthday to your son! And I'm impressed by the 8 miles.

Anne, glad all the sickness is finally over. It's rough with everyone being ill.

Midwife, hope you can find out who is doing that and catch them. Maybe you can rent security cameras?

Megan, so how much did you bench press?? It's so much fun to hear about you getting ready for your contest.

Not a good health week for me. I caught a nasty cold that's kind of laid me out, plus the neurologist news wasn't good. Had another MRI on Friday, but I made it through with no drugs and just my lavender eye pillow. I love lavender. But I'm off to Salt Lake City today for more testing, and I'm hoping that the neuro eye doctor will give me better news. Cross your fingers for me!

Have a Happy Monday everyone!

Sheila, hope you will get better news with these new test. Having to go through all this is a drag, but it is necessary to find out what is going on and being able to start a plan of treatment if that is needed. Praying that the outcome of your tests will be good news.

It's been a nice weekend for me. DH asked if I wanted to go out to dinner on Saturday and since I really hate crowds, I said no. I'd prefer to go on a non date night!

DD came home for the weekend and brought a heart shaped cake home with her. I confess I had two thin slices on Saturday. She'll go back tonight after dinner. She has a hankering for steak dinner and her George Foreman grill doesn't do steaks very well (burns the outside and the inside is rarer than rare). DD's boyfriend sent her flowers (tulips) and it came with a small box of candy. She was saving one piece for her last piece (she told me not to eat it) but then DH ate it when she wasn't looking. He claims the box was open so why not eat it. I did have one chocolate.

Oh, and my next door neighbor stopped by Friday night with a plate full of chocolate covered strawberries and pineapple. Her husband had arranged to have it sent to her (he's in Afghanistan on his 3rd deployment). She brought it over because she knew she and the boys couldn't eat it all. Actually? I preferred the strawberries WITHOUT the chocolate!! It was too crisp and not all that tasty. Had it been freshly dipped, that would have been a different matter!

Good morning everyone!

Hi Allison, Rabbit, Bargoo, Meg, Sheila, Shannon, Megan, Meg, Fiberlover, Kittycat, midwife, Anne, Dagmar, WardHog....

Sheila, I'll be thinking of you and hoping you get good results.

Megan-- I would be intimidated by your weight lifting. Good for you!

Midwife-- maybe if you talked to the culprits, they will start bothering someone else? How old are your older kids? Do you think they are being targeted? I know that my next door neighbors get their house TP'd all the time but we have never been hit (they have 2 teenaged boys).

Happy Birthday to your son WardHog! To be 5 again....

Mudpie-- sorry you and dh will be on rough schedules-- that does sound tricky-- whine away.....

As for me--- I failed...........the chocolates won.........
Friday after school/work, dh, dd, and I went to the wine country. We went to a great hotel/spa and to a delicious dinner Friday night. I ate fairly well that night and was still feeling in control. Until Saturday.... we went to a wine tasting/olive tasting/ chocolate tasting..... I made the mistake of trying a chocolate. Then I had to try the others........ this is why I don't usually eat any chocolates. I think I ate 6 (truffles!). I also tried other stuff..........

Then we came back Saturday afternoon and dd wanted to have a friend spend the night (how romantic for us ). So.... we took them shopping and went to PF Changs while they ate elsewhere. So, I had another meal out that I wasn't planning for. Too much salt for me even though I chose wisely. My hands and feet are swollen and the scale is way up. I will be working very hard this week to get things back to where they need to be.

I had my physical last week and was glad that I really am 5'5" (they did weigh and measure me!). My thyroid came back underactive and my dosage was raised so hopefully that will help me maintain my weight. My cholesterol and everything else was perfect. The doctor was quite impressed. I still haven't gotten back my liver results and I complained loudly that the liver doctor hasn't returned my calls so I'm hoping my doctor can get the results from him.

I have the day off today and dd wants me to take her to an outlet mall. It is an hour away and it is cold and pouring. I think we will try to go. Hopefully I can find something cute for myself for my aggravation!
