I am trying to figure out how much excersise to do and how many days a week. I also am trying to figure out how much weights, how often, the poundage. I am trying to conceive and I am not sure if this makes a difference with what I can and cant do and how much I should and shouldnt do. I know I cant do ab excersises at least in the two week wait. But im wondering what is recommended for weight loss in genral for both aerobic an dweights? Thanks! I hope its fine sticking around here more. I like this section better! LOl

I would recommend reading some books on strength training if you don't go to a gym. If you join a gym, you should get a few free sessions with a personal trainer thrown in there, so take advantage of those to get started.

A couple of great books are:
Sculpting Her Body Perfect by Brad Schoenfeld ( I adore this book)
New Rules of Lifting for Women

Down, I don't know if exercise has any impact on trying to conceive so can't help you with that issue (but good luck!)

If we put it aside for the moment, my suggestion is to start with 2 - 3 days of weights and 3 - 5 days of cardio per week, depending on what works with your schedule. Ultimately it would be good to work up to 3 days of weights and 5 - 6 days of cardio per week, but there isn't any need to start off at that level.

The general recommendation for exercise for weight loss is about 60 minutes on most days. You can split this between weights and cardio (it's OK to do both on the same day) or focus on one or the other on different days. Plan on taking at least one rest day a week.

Cardio can be anything that elevates and sustains your heart rate, like walking, running, swimming, elliptical, biking or DVDs. Pick something you like!

As for weights -- a key part of successful weight loss! -- Fiberlover gave you some great book suggestions. I'd add Body For Life or Body For Life For Women as possibilities. A few sessions with a personal trainer would be ideal both for helping you put a program together and for teaching you the correct way to lift.

Don't worry about starting slowly ... and once you get going, be sure to pop into our Exercise and Weightlifting forums for great discussions and ideas.

And have fun!!
