So far the only party that I'm going to is the one we're throwing for our employees on Christmas eve. It involves a taco cart with all the fixings. We don't usually have any dessert associated as the guys prefer the actual food. I usually do fine with one taco.
I keep thinking I'd like to do some holiday baking. I have a ton of really good cookie and bread recipes. But when will I find the time to do it?
My biggest challenge are the treats our vendors bring in. So far it's been one package of store-bought Christmas cookies that not only looked bad, they didn't taste too good either. Yeah, I tried one. Yuck.
Stay away from the store bought stuff! Yeah, that's my pledge.

You can do it, Anne!
My pledge:
I'm going to a holiday party tonight. I will have no more than 2 small glasses of champagne.

Tomorrow is church potluck.
I'll select reasonable portions of the healthier choices. One plate only. No foods smothered in cream or gravy. Plenty of water.

I made it through a party at an Italizan restaurant last night - DH and I split an entree (that turned out to be too heavy and salty ) and each had a dinner salad. On to tonight's which is the volunteer Fire Dept. They provide the prime rib and baked potato, the rest is potluck. No alcohol. My goal is a small piece of meat, 1/2 potato, "undressed" veggies/salad, and NO SECONDS. Dessert is usually not an issue for me, and the last few years, many have been store bought - easily passed.

About the only pledge I can live with is.... do the best I can and remember that the journey doesn't stop on New Years Eve AND a few extra calories are not worth ruining the holidays over!

I have two holiday gatherings - a "dog folk" dinner at Swiss Chalet and Christmas Eve with my family.
Swiss Chalet is dead easy - 1/4 chicken dinner with salad and a diet pepsi.
My cousin's dinner is a bit more of a challenge. It's buffet and I generally get through that just fine.
The problem is baked stuff and coffee at the end . She makes the most delicious cookies, cakes, breads etc. I always say I'll just have one of each type of cookie (usually 3 total) and then go waaay overboard. And freshly ground, drip coffee with filtered water - !!! And that usually makes me ravenous when I get home.
So I'll sit at the end of the living room where I can't see the dessert table and I will take only one cookie of each type. No repeats! And no coffee (I'll need handcuffs for that one).
My main downfall at Christmas has been gifts from clients. I can give away all sorts of things and usually do. But there is a Belgian chocolatier who makes the best chocolates on the North American continent (I make this claim after loads of "field testing" ) and I usually get at least two boxes of their chocolate.
Those I'm going to eat. No regrets.
Cheers and good luck to all with your pledges!
Dagmar

Off to a holiday dinner party. Will make the best choices possible. Just ran, so that helps with the appetite a bit.

I had 3 cookies at my party, but they were seriously tiny. Not sure if I passed or not.

I had 2 champagne cocktails.
But that's not saying much as I got really sick, left early, and am now on an IV drip of 7-UP w/ emergen-c and chicken noodle soup.

You know, Gary, ANY time you're out here in the desert you can look me up!
We'll be eating at noon on Christmas eve here at the shop. Come on by!

Party #2 done. And frankly I was disappointed. It was prime rib - but it was (a) overcooked and (b) tough! Boo! Had about 3 bites. My baked potato was still hard in places. Didn't eat much of it. I did have seconds - on salad. And no desserts, and only 1 glass of alcoholic punch.
Onwards to tomorrow - which is a lunch time potluck - and Wed night - again a potluck. These are the hardest, though neither involves alcohol, so that's good.

Dagmar,
Definitely eat the Belgian chocolates and pass on all the rest.
I live less than 10 miles to the belgian border and the only chocolate I really like are the belgians and the ones from a chocolatier in the next village. His "factory" is about as big as my livingroom with the shop attached to it. The factory is a family operation, generation 3 is running it now. What can I say...they are sooo good. I do not even eat the cholcolate stuff that the kids put up in the tree. I am getting a bag of the real stuff next week.
my resolutions? no seconds and limited alcohol consumption. I usually have the mostr problems at my house and I'm going to make sushi as new years eve appetizers. As a meal that is, with champange.

I have my only xmas party tonight. It is cocktails, not a big sit down meal. I just ate healthy terrific light supper with my kiddos and I pledge to have 2 glasses of wine only.
2 glasses only. no snacks!!
ETA, total sucess on pledge. but celebrated success of pledge by over splurging at tonight's dinner out.
