Unhappy Breathe, adjust ticker, move on

Well, I finally gave in and adjusted my profile. I'm gaining weight again. I've gained 5-6 pounds in the last 2 months. I don't know why, but I may just have to accept that my body was not meant to be a slender shape. Calories have stayed at 1400-1500. Percent body fat- 21-22%. Exercise- 45-60+ minutes of strength and cardio mix (moderate level) 6-7 days a week. 25-30%protien, 25-30% fat, 40-50 % carbs- mostly whole grain. Two periods missed, but not pregnant (three tests, weeks apart). I'm just getting increasingly larger and am a little scared that this will continue no matter what I do. Doctor's appointment on Dec. 1 to check hormone and thyroid levels. Trying not to imagine myself with some scary disease. Heart sick. Thanks, guys, for being here, I just need somewhere to talk about this without alarming my family.

Circebee, . It isn't uncommon for people to gain about 5 to 10 pounds above their goal weight and just hold there. Long term successful maintainers, according to Thin for Life. If you are doing the things you need to do, perhaps this is that adjustment up--it is hard for me to imagine that you'd regain a lot of lost weight on the calorie level you're maintaining. I'm glad you are getting tested by your doctor, but if you've lost your periods and there isn't another reason, that is consistent with pushing your body farther than it is ready to go.

My thoughts are with you. I know it is an extremely tough thing.

It is easy for me to say, but please try to stay calm. You are getting checked and I suspect all is well. Although if you are missing periods, your hormones may be a little wonky. I have to say that your weight for your height is very thin and I would be surprised if you would be able to sustain such a low weight. Perhaps your body is just readjusting itself. I would continue what you are doing food and exercise wise and try not to stress.

Thank you, Anne and Michelle! I really want to express how much maintenance is in itself a journey with ups and downs. Even when I am doing everything "right", that may have been what was right for my body last year!I'm a year older, and TODAY, I might need more/less: carbs, exercise, sleep, etc. That's why maintenance is really not a goal, but just another phase of keeping healthy. AND it is not static! The other factor I want people who are still in the losing phase to know, is that sometimes you can regain weight without changing your good habits! Hormonal changes, life changes, metabolic changes WILL HAPPEN, and you are not any less of a success story because of this. I need to follow my own advice here- I can not control everything, I can just do my best and be proud of my efforts to influence my health for the better as best I can. I will quote the great sage, Dory, from Finding Nemo, and "Just Keep Swimming!"

Better late than never? Just read all of the posts and everyone seems to be saying that your body is fighting you to reach it's desired weight, rather than the weight you assigned for it.

My body did the same. It wants to weigh 130 - 133 lbs, rather than 125. I keep hoping it'll change it's mind but I'm going with the new weight because I look great and I'm not fighting and struggling to maintain all the time.

Glad you're getting checked by your doctor. Hope all is well!

If your getting checked out by your doc, I wouldn't worry. Your body may actually be telling you that it wants to be a little higher, maybe the missed periods are a sign of that.

I feel you circebee. If it is your body telling you no go on the lower weight-- then OK, breath, adjust ticker and move on (who said those well adjusted words ).

And be that hot woman that you are at 120.

But yes, I feel it is very allright to do a little . So, hang tight and don't get derailed. Stay .

I, too, am experiencing an aggravating weight gain in the past week (up 6 lbs as of this morning). I know I'm eating OP, so I'm not sure what's up. I am choosing to believe that my body will readjust itself and go back down when I can finally calm myself down. On the other hand, I am also trying out my two day weight loss fix on Monday. If it doesn't work, there really is nothing I can do to control the increase--which, as you know, is really, really frustrating and frightening. Stick with it and believe in yourself! I, too, will be hanging in, holding on, and hoping for my weight (and yours) to stabilize!

I know that before I had children, I lost and maintained a 45 pound weight loss for around 4 years, but at my lowest I got down to around 125 (55 pound weight loss) -- which at 5'7" with my frame was pretty darn thin as I wore a size 2. But at that weight, I also started missing periods and my skin started tweaking out from my muscle mass being so high and body fat so low -- and I had to fight CONSTANTLY to stay there. Finally, I realized that it was stupid. I slowly put on ten pounds on purpose -- up to 135. I was a Size 4, my skin got beautiful, people stopped asking me if I was sick and my periods magically came back and were regular. What I learned was that I am not meant to be 125 -- and it is just possible that you are not meant to be 115. At your height, you are still incredibly slender at 120 or even 125. It is good that you are going to see your doctor, but my guess is that you just need to find your balance.
