Last weekend when we were in Georgia someone said something about going to buy more beer after the funeral, as everyone was going back to the deceased daughter's house for dinner. Then someone else told us you can't do that on Sundays. Reminded me of college in Connecticut, where you also can't buy beer on Sundays, except CT is small enough that we just drove to Rhode Island.

Allison, I had an uncle who always sent me tons of forwards that I found offensive - we're polar opposites on a lot of our political, and moral, beliefs. I never said anything, and don't even open his emails. I go through the list and click on all my bulk emails, spam, etc., and his emails and delete, then start opening what I want to read. If you're really worried about making waves it might be best not to say anything. Of course you could tell her "I don't have time to read forwards, could you please only send me personal emails". You don't have to tell her that you disagree with her beliefs.

Lori, I love that idea - if you don't mind offending send forwards of the opposite beliefs - good idea!

Hey Gary, are you working closer to home these days?

Meg, mmm, sushi, wine... yum. I'm going to visit my parents in PA for Christmas, and I'll keep an eye out for your spa (although I don't anticipate budget allowing me to spring for spa treatments). It sounds heavenly!

Sheila, I hope your son follows doctor's orders too. I disagree - as a mom you can nag (remind) him to follow doctor's orders, and fill out those insurance papers, though I'd imagine it's similar to "you need to lose weight" as being one of those things you don't want to hear until you're ready. Still, hopefully the doctor scared him a bit!

Also in Utah, you can only buy liquor and wine in a state owned liquor store. That means on Sundays and holidays you cannot buy liquor or wine. You can't even buy a glass of wine in the airport on Sunday. Beer is the only thing you can get at the grocery store (and it is a lower alcohol content there).

Sheila~I do believe that doctors can make guys change habits. I've been trying for years to get DH to start exercising. All it took was a high cholesterol reading on one lab test to send him to the doctor. He has been getting up 1/2 an hour early every day since to work out on the NordicTrak. So far he's lost about 1-2 pounds (he needs to lose about 15).

We can buy liquor at the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario) on Sundays now. Ditto the beer store. Not so until about 10 years ago. And all the product is now out on the shelves in the LCBO but not in the beer store.

I still remember going to the liquor store as a young kid with my mom. She had to write her selection in a little booklet everyone got. She then took it to a wicket, behind bars, and the attendant went to the back and brought out her liquor or wine. If he thought she had bought too much liquor in the past month he could refuse to serve her.

Ontario did a good job of out-puritaning the puritans when it came to drinking for a long time. Nothing was open on Sunday and you couldn't even go to a bar or pub.

We still can't get beer or wine in the grocery or corner store. You should have seen my face the first time I saw the beer cooler in the drugstore in NYC. I couldn't believe it!

Default A big, exciting, scary day!

Today, I went in to my weight loss clinic to weigh for the last time. You see, today was the day...one year ago today, I hit my weight loss goal. It might be strange to say, but something just made my stomach turn over when I heard that today was a year. I mean, I know I've maintained the weight loss, but now that they're "setting me free", what do I do? I have at least part of the answer! I keep on doing what I'm doing every day for the rest of my life--journal, exercise, watch my choices, care about me. I plan to make this one year anniversary a 30 year anniversary 30 years from now!

I've learned how to maintain my weight loss; I LOVE the smaller clothes though I've bought far too many cause I think I look so great in them (sorry, I'm arrogant for a bit), and I am NOT NOT NOT going to gain back this weight. I know I need to exercise often; I need to plan; and I need to be aware of what I'm feeling and what I'm doing about those feelings and thoughts. I have now maintained a 96 lb weight loss for a year! Woo! Hoo!

Sadly,I also learned that my weight loss clinic will be closing on November 21. That means I'll be flying without a net--in a way, I think God kept the program open for me to hit my one year anniversary as a way of saying "Yeah! You can do it!" On the other hand, it's really scary. I won't have a face to face person to turn to when I'm not sure what to do. Yet, I also know that I've figured out what to do when my weight has gone over the red line several times in the past year and you all have helped with that.

Part of the trick is patience. I know that sometimes my weight goes up though I am totally on plan. Other times, it goes down just as inexplicably. The key is patience and belief in myself and in my choices. Thinking is another part of the plan. Thinking about the choices I make and how they are going to affect me; and in the end, it really is me, not my husband or my kids or my job they are going to affect. Good choices aren't always easy to make, but if I make good choices 95% of the time at least, I think I can do this. I also need to have other things to do when I'm not hungry but I'm on the prowl for food. I'm making a list of things to do to keep my mind occupied. That list is going to get posted to remind me that there are other options than eating!

Goal, congrats on your year. You know what to do now and I do think it will be the first of many!

I think you should do an anniversary post, or put up your lessons learned in the milestones sticky. You are now an example for others!

Goalsuccess, that's inspiring! I so get how it's scary to be "set free," and I think this fine subforum will keep you where you want to be . That's my plan when I get there.

Way to reach the 1 year milestone Goal, heck I'd say your a success! Oneday at a time that is how we continue to do it. Nobody here is perfect, but if we are pretty close most days that's what counts!
The cool thing is, we are all unique individuals, we all did it our own way, went different routes, yet still arrived at that finishline.
