Default running after dark

Lisamarie I think it's great that you're already out there doing what you can to get back into shape.

Is running after dark a personal safety issue? Could you take a cell phone with you and set the speed dial to call your hubby if you feel threatened? And tell your hubby this is what you are doing and to be prepared to grab the baby and come to your aid? Maybe you could just run within a close radius of your home - boring but easier to get back to safety.

If it's a problem with being seen (by cars, bikes, etc.) then I'm sure you know about all of the wonderful reflective clothing out there now. I didn't really believe those little strips of metallic stuff worked until I saw one of our cats, wearing her little reflective collar, from over half a block away in my car headlights. MY DH caught heck from me for letting the cat out after dark but at least he put her collar on.

LisaMarie71, First congratulations on maintaining your weight loss for a year. My one year anniversary is the end of this month. Time flies so quickly and though I know I've been challenged, I am also beginning to recognize that I am a different person that I was when I started losing weight in January 07. It's interesting to think about all the things that have changed in our lives because we have lost weight, don' you think?

It's great to hear that you're back to running. Though you aren't running like you were before the baby, maybe the way to think of it is to think about when you first started running. My guess is that you didn't get out there and run 12 miles the first time, right? Be gentle with yourself. You can't do it all at once, but you can take small steps each day or each week towards returning to the runner that you were pre-preg. I can understand your challenges with running now that you are fitting a small child into the equation. Do you already have a jogging stroller? I've seen so many people with them. I guess it allows them to get their exercise when they want as their child is in the stroller, too. With the weather still begin fairly decent, it might be worth it to try that idea out if you haven't already.
Congrats again on the one year anniversary! Now, you're on your way to your second year anniversary!!!

Dagmar - I used to run after dark but I stopped after I was approached by a scary dog that I didn't see coming! I live in a subdivision but it's kind of the boonies -- the lots are all at least 5 acres (most are bigger) and it's all wooded, so there's really no light at all, as all the houses are set far back from the road. So it's a little scary to run where there could be dogs when I can't see them. That last time, I just heard a growl and suddenly he was right in front of me!

goal - I do have a jogging stroller but it's made for an older baby, so I have to wait until Henry can sort of sit up before I can use it. It won't be good for training runs, of course, but it'll be nice for light jogs through the neighborhood.

Surprisingly, my legs aren't sore this morning from that first little jog. I may try it again today since it's Saturday and my husband's home all day, and we'll see what happens.

Dangit! I hadn't really considered perimenopause or premenopause. I suppose that at my age it is quite possible. I'm on the pill, though, so I can't be certain if things are going that way or not. Anyway, I think I was just in a funk yesterday. I have a better outlook today because I got my hair done!!! Why does that always brighten things up?

When we look good we feel good. And a bit of personal pampering is always good for the soul.

I'm so envious of all of you who have enough hair to have it "done". I'm trying to grow my thin, fine, straight as a pin
stuff out to chin length but it's driving me crazy and, short of crazy gluing it in to a style, it never ever stays how I style it for more than a couple of minutes.

It is soft and blond though and my DH refers to me as his "little blond hamster" so that is kinda cute (if you think rodents are cute).

Think I might invest in a wig at some point in my life, just to see how I look with hair.
