The scale is tricky...Help!!!

I have had days in a row were I weigh in really heavy but the inches are still coming off. Any idea why this happens. I really am not sure what number to believe. Could you show 3 extra lbs from salt in your diet. Or am I really gaining muscle that fast. Also, my diet buddy has stayed the same for a month but is losing inches. She was not really exercising until this week. (her dance class started so I don't think it is because of muscle gain) Any help to understand this would be great. :dizzy:

this is why i dont weigh daily. anything can make you fluctuate a few pounds. maybe you havent "gone" (bathroom, lol) in a few days. can also be too much sodium the night before, period coming, etc. i only weigh once a week because the fluctuations (which can be up to 5 lbs in one day!) would make me insane!

I agree with Julia. I can have fluctuations up to 5 pounds as well.

Are you working out a lot? If so, though I know it's hard and I haven't been able to accomplish this myself so I'm not one to talk :) get rid of the scale. If you measure your success by the scale, like so many of us do, it will be hard to stay on track if you are working out and losing slow. Go by your clothes and the tape measure. I have lost "only" 6 pounds in the past 5 weeks yet I've lost 2" off my hips and 2" off my waist and clothes are definitely looser. And if I ate a big meal tonight I'd probably "gain" 4 of those 6 pounds back on the scale tomorrow but I doubt the tape measure would show any change at all :) So while it's hard, consider limiting yourself to 1 time on the scale per week, or every two weeks, or whatever you can manage.

Now if I could only follow my own advice LOL
