Wow, I lost weight.

I have started using the Food Pyramid and it has worked out pretty well for me. I just count my servings and stop when I have enough of each food group.

Has anyone else here used this simple approach?

If you don't have an actual food addiction, this approach may be the way to go!

good for you!! i cant do this approach because i tend to overeat if i dont have some accountability, but everyone is different. im glad you found something that works.

Yes, and I track on mypyramidtracker.gov. It will calculate what a serving is based on what you've eaten (not always as you'd expect!). And will adjust how many servings you need based on your weight goals. Can also track your exercise on the same site and it calculates that into your allowance.

It gives you smiley faces if you get your servings and sat fat and sodium in line too.

As you can see from my ticker, it's working for me.

Interesting, I didn't know about that website, although personally I would not want to hand my health information to the govt. I've just been using the standard pyramid.

Besides limiting my servings I also only eat nutrient-rich foods now, like whole grain breads and raw vegetables. Just doing that reduced my hunger and I no longer stuff myself. I avoid addictive foods too, like chocolate.

Turns out most of my craving was due to eating nutrient-poor foods like Coca-cola, white bread and pasta, plus eating way too much carbs. 80% of my calories were carbs when it should be 40-65%. Since I restored balance to my diet I've felt better and lost fat.

I'm using a free program on my phone to track my intake, see mangia.tk, which lets me keep track on a daily basis what I eat wherever I am, but it's not strictly necessary. I can keep count of my servings on paper, too.
