  • My counselor said something interesting today. She said I need to try and limit my eggs to no more than 6 per week.

    Anybody else heard this?

I'm having a little bit of a problem w/ this one. I have to get 5 servings of protein in each day and have been having 2 eggs/day during the week and 4 eggs/day on the weekends. It's been working so far b/c I've lost 16 lbs in 3 weeks.

I have no health problems but she said they didn't want me to develop high cholesteral so I need to limit my eggs.

I'm really not on board w/ this. My eggs have become a very important part of my daily regimen.

    Thoughts?
  • Jill- I totally disagree with this, for several reasons. First of all, eggs really are good for you. There are nutritional elements of eggs that are not found in any other foods. Also, it is much for practical for me to eat eggs daily for breakfast. Other proteins for breakfast end up messing me up. For example, 1 T of peanut butter does not fill me up. Eggs do. I would do what works for you.
  • First I have to say that I am not on LA Weightloss. BUT I do think that the request is reasonable because the counselor is worried about cholesterol. I don't know what the LA Weightloss guidelines for weightloss are, but eggs have 6 grams of protein per serving. If you ate 3.5 ounces of most types of meat, you would be getting 25 grams of protein. Milk, yogurt, fish, and cheese are also good sources. Nuts can offer some protein as well. Peanuts or walnuts (1 ounce each) offer as much protein as 1 egg, around 6 grams.

That being said, have you discussed this with your physician? A phone call can't hurt, as well as having your cholesterol tested.
  • Which plan are you on?
When I was on purple, there was a limit on the number of eggs you could have a week. Now that I'm on plan #3, there's no limit indicated for eggs. I've never been told that, and I have eggs every morning for breakfast. It sound like you've been doing great so far!
  • I alternate my breakfast I have an egg one day and then pb and toast the other. So basically every other day... they actually told me to not eat RF PB everyday and that's why I started doing the egg every other? But they didn't say anything about limiting eggs?
  • I'm not on LA Weight Loss either, but recently I heard eggs are good, but one should limit to 7 per week. How about egg whites or egg substitue? I can find both egg substitute (made with pasteurized egg whites & some spices for flavor), and pure egg whites in my supermarket. Those are good alternatives, have all the protein and none of the fat.

Maybe you can mix both, some egg substitute with whole egg to make more with less fat. Just a suggestion.
  • it does say no more than 6 per week in the plan book. we had this discussion about eggs in the breakfast thread and eggs are a good breakfast item but you do have alot of eggs per week, more than twice the amount suggested. Have you tried egg beaters? You can do egg beaters for some of the time that you would normally do eggs. I'm no expert tho. Maybe you should check with your doc and see what he/she says about you having so many eggs.

I totally agree with Teresa. There was a limit on eggs with the color coded plans and that limit was lifted with the numbered plans. I eat and have eaten 9-10 eggs a week since July. There are new studies that have come out and eggs no longer have the bad rap that they once did.

Eggs are one of the foods that I have identified as "my power" foods meaning that they are a big reason for my successful weight loss.

  • Here's my 2 cents on eggs since I went to the same center as you. They told me the same thing about eggs. But it was easy and filled me up. I make one egg in the microwave and have it on 2 slices of whole wheat lite bread sprayed with ICBINB spray. One counselor told me that it was a good way to start the morning with a protein. Another told me to limit the number I had. So I started using the Egg Beaters. I do try to mix it up a bit - making half a egg and adding homemade turkey sausage to it.
  • I count on eggs to help me lose weight. Eggs are the perfect protein. They contain all the essential amino acids the body requires for building protein. Not all other sources have that. Protein is required for building muscle. They fill you up and provide a great protein source for your morning fast break.
I would not eat two a day everyday but really I can't see a real nutritionist telling you not to eat them. My experience is that the counselors have a little knowledge and a little experience. But I certainly have much more of both. If eggs help you eat them.
  • It is the colored plan books that put a limit on eggs. I am still following the blue plan which says no more than 6 eggs per week. I have never seen or heard about the number plans.
  • Hot Topic! You guys rock.

I think I'm going to incorporate a little of everyone said. I'll alternate w/ PB toast every other day and on weekends just do 2 eggs and then a cup of substitute for my omelettes.

That cuts me down to 8 eggs a week instead of 18! I also consider them one of my power foods, they definately get me through the morning. But honestly, I'm getting a bit sick of them.

Thanks so much for all the great advice! I am SO happy to be incorporating different foods now!
  • There is an article in Women's World I picked up last night that says if you have eggs every morning it helps to you to lose weight because it satisfies you and you end consuming less calories throughout the day. Also full of vitamins.

  • A lot of articles talk about how just eating breakfast, any type of breakfast, has this effect!

  • Hello. My name is Felicia. And I'm an Eggoholic. I love eggs and I miss them! I've been limiting mine, but I really know that I would do better if I ate them each morning. I just can't remember: how many eggs equals one protein?
