taco dip recipe how do I count this if I can even have it?

  • I am stand ing with family members who are talking about a party for labor day weekend. I asked the HOST what to bring and the other family member pipes in oh have her bring the Taco dip she makes! She said ya bring that!
I thought for peet sake how about being not so specific! say dessert or a appetizer so I have choices!

So here is the recipe~ Sour cream16 ozs ( will us fat free? have not bought
sour cream for a long time)
    Taco seasoning 1/2 packet

    Lettuce , tomato, onion,cheese cheddar,

    taco sauce

I want to make this so i can eat it on plan but not sure if anyone can help me make it that way or not. the taco sauce seasoning had me wondering how to make it not so high in sodium!
  • I am going to be interested in that response too. I love taco's. Got soy stuff in the fridge to make it but next concern was the seasoning. Somewhere a few years ago I bought some on line that had a low if not no salt content and I can't figure out where that was. This dip sounds great. I hope we can have it because I am getting ready to get into football season and we are big on parties if we don't go to the game. I need to be able to eat something fun instead of just veggies.
  • anyone know????
  • Steph- I make this sometimes, it is so good! Use FF sour cream and LF cheese. You can also use the reduced sodium taco seasoning, or just use chili powder, garlic powder, morton's lite salt, and cumin instead. I like to eat dip kinds of things with melba toast rounds. You get more of them for a starch. I would measure a few tablespoons out into a dish for you, and count it as C, C, 1/2 D, V. If you add olives or avacado, you can get a fat in too.
  • where do you get reduced sodium taco mix?
  • I get mine from Wegman's in the same place as all the other taco seasonings, my family can't even tell the difference.
  • Recipe
Here's the recipe I use for homemade taco seasoning. You could definately use the lite salt or omit it.

    2 teaspoons instant minced onion
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon chili powder
    1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
    1/2 teaspoon crushed red peppers
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/4 teaspoon oregano
    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • thanks!
  • Thanks MNCOWGIRL! I will have to try that for sure! Taco's are my weekness!
