Determining Your Ideal Weight
Heres a thread topic I haven't seen much discussion on other than Tina's recent question.
What determines the Weight Loss Goal you set? There is some conflicting information out there on Ideal Weight, so what is right and what is wrong?
I am 5'7" and currently weigh 147. My goal is 135 but am I going to look anorexic at that weight? I'm starting to wonder. Where did I get that number from anyway? That was pre-baby weight, 16 years ago, thats where.
What is some good information to base your ideal weight on? The sights I have visited have a range from 121 to 160 pounds for my stats. Just wondering what everyone else based theirs on.

Hi Amy! First I just want to say that I am not on LA Weight Loss but your Q is such a great one that I hope you don't mind me jumping in. Regarding how to determine your ideal weight, I suppose you just have to be introspective about how you're looking and feeling and go from there, using guidelines as, well, a guide! I am the same height as you and I look best at 130; I am athletic and as my body fat composition has changed from about 23% down to about 18% (I strength-train and am a runner), I have made changes to that number. Keep in mind that two individuals of the same height and weight can appear totally different due to bone structure, fat distribution, muscle mass, etc.
You appear to have nice bone structure in your face so it is possible that you'de look gaunt at 135. Follow your instincts, and may you have ciontinued success in your goals!

Thanks for the input fatburner. I am liking the way that my body looks now, but I am also use to seeing more of me than is here now. I also wonder if it will look better or too thin at my magic number so I am going to have to see for myself. I am still hung up on reaching that goal, because it is a goal and If I don't, isn't that failure? I honestly don't think I will want to stay there, but won't know until I get there.
Congrats on your current stats. Good Luck reaching your goal.

I really think it is how you feel you look the best...I am 5'4 and I feel I looked my best at 140...and that has been said to be on the HIGH weight side for me....they say more 125 and well personally I think that I look WAY too skinny that weight...So that is why I put my goal 140.
P.S. you updated your pic today yeah? It looks great!!

New here, hope you don't mind if I chime in. :-) I'm also 5'7" and looked great at 155 just out of college. I was 128 in high school and looking back I was too thin. For this weight-loss journey, I set my goal at 155. Some charts may list this on the border of being overweight for my height. For me, I'll just have to see how I look and feel and perhaps reevaluate a new goal once this one is reached.

What a great question! I was wondering the same thing. When I joined LAWL in February, it was under a deal that you got unlimited weight loss for so much. So I could lose 20 lbs. or 200 lbs. for the same price. The only problem was that you had to decide what your goal was that day. And if later you decided you wanted it lower, those additional weeks would cost you! How does someone decide their ideal weight when they are over 240! I finally convinced them to let me put it at 120-130 & decide specific as it got closer. The only thing I compared it to was in high school I got down to 115, but I know I was built totally different in high school & may think I look great at 140. However, to get my refund I have to get to the 120-130 goal & maintain even if I want to weigh more.
Anywhoo, that's my frustration with deciding goal weight.

I am betweem 5'7 and 5'8 and set my goal and 150. I was 126 when I graduated from high school but was really thin and had no muscle tone what so ever. Exercising was a bad word for me. I now have more muscle mass than ever in my life and even though I weigh the same as I did before I started working out I have gone down from a size 16/19 to a 12/14 due to body composition. I think with the added muscle the 130s would be too thin. I maybe want to get to the 140s, we'll just have to see.

well according to my height my ideal weight is supposed to be 105-110 YA RIGHT!! I was that weight once and I will never be that sick again. It was when I was in my late teens and lived with an abusive BF who didn't let me eat, I call it involuntarily anorexic.

I just went to a web site to calculate your ideal weight...at 5'8 mine should be between 122 and 166. That is quite a gap but I guess it all depends on muscle mass and bone size.

Hi everyone. This is kind of funny because I just joined and started last Monday. They asked me what my goal weight was an on the quick thinking I just said 120. I thought that was a nice number. I have not seen that number for quite a few years but it will be interesting when i finally get there. I am only 4'11" also so when I look at a piece of cake it automatically adds 5 pounds to me. lol

Your ideal weight is between 101 and 137 lbs (45.9 and 62.0 kg).

My stats from that site say 118 to 160. My skeletal structure probably weighs 118. I would look worse than sick. I was worried about 135 looking way to thin. That will be another 12 pound loss and I don't know where it is going to come from.

Hi! since I am 5'4" that sites says I should be between 108 and 146, I am aiming for 150 right now. I think on me 108 seems really to skinny there would be nothing left to me, I am at 164 right now and in a size 10 and loving it can't imagine being at 108 I am sticking with 150.

Hi. I went to that site and it told me that the weight range for me was 92 - 124. So my goal that I told them was 120 which is the high range as I would never be at 92 ever again. I thought I was too thin at 107 which I got down to. I have been on plan for 5 days now and starving. I wish my stomach would just accept the fact I am not going to feed it more.
