Default Getting Started

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the community, posting from NY. I'm at about 180lbs right now, and want to lose 45, but I've found that the hardest part is getting started. I can't seem to work up the motivation to commit to anything. Any suggestions at all would be a huge help!

Thanks!

*J.

Hi Jexxy

Welcome to 3FC! You and I have (sorta) similar start/goal weights, pretty cool . The best advice I can give you when you're starting out is to take "baby steps." Don't try and change everything all at once because (at least in my experience) you end up feeling deprived and discouraged. I started off by cutting out Coke (I was drinking 4 - 5 cans a day) and replacing the sugar in my tea with Splenda. Once I adjusted to these changes (after about a week), I slowly began replacing my not-so-good food choices with healthier choices.

A good way to figure out where you can cut out the bad stuff is to log what you eat each day. Then you can sit down and say "Hmm, I had two Cokes/Pepsis/whatever today, tomorrow's goal is to cut it down to one," etc.

I also highly recommend some weight/resistance training in addition to whatever other exercise you're planning -- it works wonders! Adding more protein to your day is an excellent idea, too, and actually keeps you satisified much longer than fats and carbs, so it really helps in the "hunger" department.

Are you doing a "plan" (WW, SBD, Atkins) or doing it on your own? What are your ideas for exercise?

- Kate
