I am 5'5 and weigh 190, i use to wear a size 10 when i weighed 155, but now i wear a tighter 12 and loose 14, so im in between. My goal is to get to a size 8/9.

I'm 5'4 133 (down from 138) and in mostly 9/10. My proportions are all wacky since having 2 kids. At my smallest, I was 105-110 (size 4) and approximately 115-120 size 6 throughout college. I got up to 163 with DD2 and I'm having trouble losing that. The extra weight combined with my hips FLARING has caused my clothes in my closet to SHRINK!! In juniors, I can barely fit my batoot into a 13 stretch. In old navy, 10. In Walmart clothes - XL (how do they size that stuff???) and 12. My poundage doesn't sound like much, but take 105 from 138. that is 33 pounds I have gained in approx. 6 years. ARRGH.

I am at 233 right now and am 5'4. I wear size 18/20, XXL
Sometimes I wear a straight 18 or 16 on top. I'm pretty well proportioned, harder to tell with more weight but by the time I get back to 200lbs, I'll be more like my old hourglass.

I am kind of thick boned and always had an athletic build. Hope to get back to size 14 at 180 pounds for right now.

All of this really shows that actual pounds don't matter as much as other things -- measurements, body fat, etc...

anyway i'm 5'5, 138 and i wear 6 or 8 on the bottom and a small or a medium on top. In the teeny tiny stores or in designer jeans I wear a 30, which I think is supposed to be the equivilent of a 10 but who knows they cut the clothes so small! In juniors, I don't know, probably a 7/8 or 9/10. What stores I shop in make a huge difference.

I love this! My friend and I are the same height and same weight, but she wears 20 in pants and XL in shirts and I wear a 14 in pants and a XXL in shirts. We are always saying that if I had her top or if she had my bottom, we'd be quite sexy.
About 10 years ago I weighed 137 pound, wore size 7 pants and L shirts, but marriage, college, and kids have taken care of that. Now I'm up to 225 and struggling. The think I find most frustrating is that I don't eat very much! Three meals a day if that. I just don't like to exercise and I'm having trouble combating my urge to sit down and read my books (Jude Deveraux is my passion!).

Its crazy, I look at people that weigh what I weigh and think I don't look like that. I am so bottom heavy. My thighs hips, and butt are huge compaired to my top. I'm am 18 on bottom and like a medium/large on top(not sure the number size, I mostly wear t shirts). I've lost 12lbs and I lost it all in my top my pants arn't even kind of lose. Its crazy and annoying I look at ladies with nice legs and get so jelous. but then I am thankful for other parts of my body. I guess I won't ever be totally happy.
When I was 18, I lost a lot a weight and was my smallest and even then at 180(I know thats not that small) I still barely fit a 14.
Jembers-I always want to read to and don't have the time so I found I can read while on the elyptical on my luch break and burn 800 calories. When I'm havning a good week, I lose weight, and finish a book!

Thumbs up

This has always puzzled me but I know that everyone is built different, therefore they will wear different sizes. When I was smaller (135 lbs.) I wore a L/XL and a 12/14 pants but knew people who were the same height (5'6) as me but weighed more than me and they said they were a size 4-6. Now I wear a 16 dress/pants and anywhere from a XL to 2X shirt-only because depending on the shirt I like them big. Love wearing big sweaters and shirts with leggings in the winter the reason a 1X-2X. My DD is 5'4 and weighs 128 and wears a small-med top and a 10/11 pant. It's interesting to see the differences in sizes though.

Has anyone seen Kirstie Alley's new commercial where she says she has lost 30 lbs. now? Just curious what everyone's thought is on that as she said when she started she was at 210 I believe.

Anyway, good thread.

Hi, I'm not a regular on this forum but this thread is interesting . . . I'm 5'4", 153 at the moment. I haven't gone shopping for pants since I started dieting (I was squeezing into a 14 at 185lbs), but I think I'm on the small side of a size 12 now. For tops, I wear L or XL depending on the cut, since my boobs are too big (if not for them, I'd fit into a medium!). At my smallest (when I was 13-14 years old, haha) I was about 115-120 and I wore size 7 on the bottom and medium on top.

It's totally about measurements, not pounds. Had I been as diligent about exercising as a teenager as I am now, I probably would have fit into a smaller size (I always had a flabby belly!).

I'm 5'5", 141. I wear jean size 6. I used to wear pants size 12 tight at 173 lb. At this time I can wear size medium shorts and tight small sport top (Nike). My boops get a lot smaller after I lose weight from 34C to loose 34B). I feel like no breasts. since my tummy still big compare to my breast. I lost 3 inches from my hips (38") and can pull up size 4 pants but still could not zip up at tummy and very tight on thighs.

I'm fit in size 6 tankinis and can put on speedo size 4 (but a bit tight). Hope to get in there soon.

Oh I'm not fit well in express/ limited pants size 6, still tight on thigh. I think I have thigh problem. Need to work on them more.

Most of the brand dress, I can't wear size 6 formal dress yet but some brands I can fit perfectly, so confusing me a bit. So I think I'm still a size 6-8 not a real size 6.

What makes this even more tricky is how much variation there is from one clothing line to the next. I've read that some upscale designers are a little more generous, and that overall what used to be a '12' years ago is now a 14, for example, to deal with our vanity. I'm 5'6", with a bit of a waist and big boobs, hips and thighs. I can always find clothes that fit on the 22 rack, but some 20s are plenty big, and I can't wear some 22s at all. Pants tend to run short, but most talls are way too long.

Don't get me started on the bra problem! I will enjoy shopping sooooo much more in a couple of years...

this is so interesting... I'm 5'10", 230, medium build, and a 16 pants/XL top... i'm very curvy, which is nice, but still generally big all over... I was a 14 for awhile, w/ my weight between 200 and 220.... I was a 12 in high school, weight 170... why did I think I was fat lard then??? lol! I shop at gap, old navy, banana (for work), belk, etc... My goal size is a 10... I like some junk in the trunk... lol!
