Default Completely New here!

Hi,everybody! My name is Renee.
I just figured out that I need friends who are on working the same type of goals. My family tries to be supportive, but it doesn't always feel like it.
I'm 29/f.
I am doing Atkins. I'm on day 4. I'm hypothyroid, but it's been controlled for almost a year.

Hi Renee - I'm new too and I understand firsthand what you mean by needing people that are working on the same goals. My "real world" friends are happy for my progress, but other than that the ones who aren't in the same weight struggle have no interest and the ones who are heavy but not ready to do something about it don't want to hear about it even more.

I'm hypothyroid too and also being handled and steady for about 3 years now. Just doing a simple calorie deficit and trying to eat more balanced, though I do get Atkins shakes now and then because they're an easy low sugar high protein option for breakfast on my way to work. Working with a personal trainer 1 day a week and found out I love classes (who would have thought? haha). Started out about 11 weeks ago at 291 and last Monday was down to 259. Next weigh in and measure day is day after tomorrow so maybe that # will come down a little more fingers crossed

Good luck continuing your journey!

Hi Renee
I'm sure you'll find all the support you need here. I'm also hyperthyroid but i don't find it has anything to do with my weight gain and loss since i take meds. I've been taking them for years.

The other day i read with some astonishment that this disease really only causes weight gain to a comparatively small amount. I wish i had kept the link.

If your parents/family are being overly critical, perhaps you could calmly explain to them that their critical feedback doesn't actually help but makes it harder. Tell them you need them to keep quiet with the criticism and judgementalism.

If its because they are eating a lot of bad foods in front of you, well that's probably harder to deal with. I find i need to avoid the sight and smells of the foods that i have difficulties with.

If they are offering it to you, keep telling them that you want them not to offer you food until they get it.

Best wishes on your journey.
