24yo Newbie to 3FC
Hello! I just stumbled across 3FC last night while looking for more details about weighing during TOM, if you know what I mean. I perused the forum for a while and decided What the hey! We could all use a little more support, so here I am!
My name is Katie. I'm 24 and a graduating senior at UTK. I began my half-hearted attempts at weight loss in early 2008 when I stepped on the scale and saw 196! I had gained 20 pounds in 6 months after getting a job as a reporter, working 16 hour days and eating fast food for every meal. I actually didn't realize I had gained anything before the day I weighed in. My clue? I could no longer button up any of my pants! I spent the rest of the winter/spring wearing long sweaters to hide the fact that my pants weren't buttoned because I refused to admit that I needed a bigger size.
It's too bad the opposite isn't true. I thought, if I gained so much just by eating fast food, I can lose it all if I just cut out the trips to McDonald's! So not true!
I realized a long time ago that there's no "secret to weight loss." I keep a food log of what I eat and how many calories are in each meal daily. It keeps me honest and helps me realize what went wrong when I weigh in (once a week). I avoid restaurants if at all possible. I try to stay around 1,200 calories. (It ends up being 1,000 - 1,400 most days, but that's okay.) I also utilize our university's free state-of-the-art gym while it's still free for me, but I'm just starting out and don't go as much as I should.
My ultimate goal is to make lifestyle changes that mean I never have to "get back in the habit" of exercising or eating healthy again. I want to be at 150 by November 4. I haven't weighed 150 since I was 15 years old! If I am, I'm rewarding myself with a chic haircut. (I'm donating my hair with a girl friend of mine.)
I hope we can all encourage one another and help each other reach our goals! Nice to meet y'all!
