Default Hello - I'm Back Again

Hi, my name is Jen and it's been a few months since I've been back on 3 Fat Chicks. I started my weight loss journey again on Memorial Day 2009 weighing in at around 218 pounds. I decided to make a lifestyle change by cutting calories, and exercising five days a week. By the end of August I was down to 185, but suffered a mid foot sprain that sidelined my workouts for a few weeks. With my limited workouts, I was able to get under 170 pounds by December, but with the holidays and winter weather, my weight has crept back up to to 176 pounds, so now I'm trying to get back on track and get to my goal of 135 pounds.

hi!! welcome back!! What type of exercises did you do when you had your sprain? I just sprained my ankle last night walking out of my house! I have been exercising almost everyday and this is putting a huge damper in my routine. Any suggestions on what you did before to help you would be great! It's awesome that you still lost weight though even with the injury!! congrats

Hi Ashley,

Well, before my injury I was lifting weights, jump roping and riding a recumbent bike. My doctor told me I couldn't do any exercises that put weight or pressure on my foot for about six weeks which included the recumbent bike so I modified my weight workout by trying to do as many exercises sitting down. This included hammer curls, dumbell press, side lateral raises, and concentration curls. I was able to do "girly pushups", several ab workouts, and in order to get some kind of leg workout, I'd lay on my back and did side leg raises, scissors, bicycles, fire hydrants, and the clam.

My doctor recommended swimming as an excellent exercise routine, but I wasn't ready to get in a bathing suit.

I ended up doing a search on the internet for exercise routines for foot injuries which was very helpful. The only bad thing about trying to do weights sitting down is that some exercises still put pressure on the foot so I had to be careful. Also, I made sure my diet was in check. My foot still gives me trouble every now and then, but I'm just extra careful when it comes to any jumping or running.

Good luck, and stay positive!

jenneio: those are the exact exercises that I have been trying to do while this ankle heals. I was only on crutches for a few days and decided to just take the pain after a week, which I probably shouldn't have done. How long did it take for your ankle to heal? Six weeks?! haha and yes bathing suits are terrifying for me, i avoid them at all cost! haha

Hi Ashley,

My foot did heal in six weeks. It was probably another month after that when I felt comfortable enough to jump or run. I still get a little twinge here and there, especially when I'm exercising, but I just make sure not to over do it.
