Default Ready to lose weight!

Hey everybody,
I took a quick look through these forums and it looks like a great place both to get motivated and support.

I have never been a skinny girl, but looking back I realize I had a great body in high school and until I was about 21. At that time my boyfriend moved in with me and I packed on the pounds. I am 5'7" and started at 145 lbs. (jean size 11) I gained 50 lbs. in less than two years. I am now teetering between 194-197 (jean size 16) and totally ready for change and finally motivated enough to do it.

I am in a new relationship now and we have been hitting the gym together for weight training for about 9 weeks (once or twice a week). I can definitely tell I am getting definition in my muscles, but no weight loss yet. this week we started cardio (finally).

I know my biggest hurdle will be controlling what I eat. I eat crap! When I was thinner I allowed myself one bag of chocolate a month- when I started my period... now I'm eating a bag of M&M's a week!
I'm trying to eat more veggies and healthy foods and cutting out soda.
I must get my eating under control and I feel that increasing the workouts and cardio will help me to not "throw away" all the work i've done with a cookie!

So, sorry it's so long! Bottom line, i'm glad to be here and hope to be able to report progress soon

I know you can do it!! Everything will work out. I losted 16 pounds in 4 weeks and all I did was change my eating, and I only worked out once!

Thanks everyone! So much support already
I hadn't really made a plan, part of my problem I guess.
I think I will now aim for 2 pounds a week, putting me at my goal the end of May. I am also setting a mini goal of 18 lbs lost by my birthday, February 20th. Also 2 lbs. a week.

Hi Sarby!
Sounds like you're off to a great start with determination and realistic goals -the support you need is here.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help choose the right ones for you and get through the ups and downs.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee
