Red face Trying not to diet

With a title like that, why am I here? I've been heavy all of my life. In fact I have no image of myself as a thin person. I wish I had an inkling. I am currently seeing a counselor who specializes in treating clients with weight issues. I have to say I have made more mental progress in the past three months than I have in the past 30+ years! My goal is to strengthen the voice in my head that is my true self. My ego. My critical voice has reigned supreme for years and has impeded any progress I might have made by tearing me down, and then there's the kid in me that can't say no to a sweet or two or three or four.......you get the picture. Anyway, my journey has begun once again, but my path is different. I am trying not to diet, but focusing on making better choices. Taking the time to listen to myself and what I want instead of struggling through the relentless clutter in my brain. So there's my first post. Greetings!

i wish i had something really profound to say to you, but the truth is, for me, i have to keep things simple. i dont know what broke inside of me, years ago. i just know i have to take one day at a time.

its seems to be working and with each day feel a little stronger, and a little more confident. that is my wish for you.

welcome and the very best of luck to you

You seem to have made amazing progress so far! I, too, have been big all of my life. I have no idea what it's like to be a healthy weight. But, I'm hoping to discover

You'll find there are many people on 3FC in the same frame of mind about "diets". We're all just trying to make healthier choices. Trying to make changes that we'll be following for the rest of our lives. Slowly, but surely, we're making our way.

I hope that you find the support you need at 3FC! Have a look around & post wherever you're comfortable.

Best of success!!!

Welcome to the forum!

I'm with you. I can't do the "special diet thing" anymore. It just doesn't work for me. I need a plan that I can live with for life, and that means making small, gradual changes. It also means small, gradual weight losses. But that's okay, as long as I form good habits that'll keep me on track.

Let us know if you need any direction around the forum. There's lots of great support here.

Toofull- You deserve Kudos for the miles that you have come so far! Most "programs" work as long as you stick to them....but what happens when you get off the program?? I want a LIFESTYLE change that I can live with and that comes without a constant battle in my mind. It has always been a stronghold in my adult life but I am going to embrace the folks on the site and consider them my new found friends!

Thanks for all of the support. I certainly feel like I got a 3FC welcome! Does anyone have suggestions about how to use this site to your best advantage? And like I said at the beginning..Thanks for making me feel welcome.

Hrm. Good question!

I think I'd first suggest finding a few places that you feel comfortable. Perhaps the 300+, or 100lb club, or a support area with people close to your age if you'd like.

I use 3FC for support & information. So, I enjoy feeling connected to everyone. For me, that means posting in many different areas. For some people it means reading & lurking. Participate in a way that will help you stay on target. (Even simply reading is participating!)

The more people posting, the merrier, however. So hopefully you'll feel comfortable enough to post more often ^^
