Rhubarb may be in the frozen section in bags chopped, as it's definitely not the season for it. Chayote is likely in Sobey's/Safeway if you have that there. Save-on-Foods here in BC carries it regularly too but I'm not sure if you have them there as it's a western company. You could always check a Choices Market or Whole Foods for chayote. You may have to wait til April or May for rhubarb fresh at your farmer's market. I have amazing rhubarb in my garden and pop lots in the freezer for later in the year.

I was told Chayote is not allowed, can someone confirm if this is true or not?

It is allowed. It is listed on the protocol sheet.

Chayote is listed as a select vegetable on the P1 sheet that was updated on March 2015.

I also can't find fresh rhubarb here in the southern USA. The little local grocery store sometimes has it in the frozen foods section, and then I buy every bag they have!

Rhubarb - so bummed I bought approximately 10 pounds over a 3 month period (April - June / July), froze 3 gallon baggies and have blown through it Now I can't find it anywhere - even my ethnic food store that normally has everything.

My neck-of-the-woods doesn't have Whole Foods or Trader Joe's either...may have to make a special trip to TJ's / call to see if they have some frozen.

Sunflower - who said chayote wasn't allowed? Thanks to Janeva's recipes, that lovely, beautiful, delicious squash has become a primary staple of IP'ers

Thanks Liana
I've been checking the frozen food section but haven't seen any. I will keep looking. I haven't checked Sobeys yet though, I've tried Metro, Independent Grocer, and a few others so maybe I'll have better luck there.

Hysteria.. I'm in the NoVa area and the neighborhood Harris Teeter has frozen rhubarb. I've never seen it at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. I did notice my local Trader Joe's started carrying pre-cut jicama sticks in the refrigerated veggies section.

Good luck - but definitely try HT - they may stock it as special request since other stores have it.

I had it twice in one week in stirfry, it was delicious. When my coach saw it in my book she gave me the eye and said it wasn't. I described it as Chayote Squash so maybe she didn't know what it was?

I love that stuff stir fried with bell peppers and soya sauce.

Hi all!
I was on the IP diet in 2013 for 4 months and lost a total of 30lbs (from 192lbs to 164lbs)! I had kept off the weight, and even dropped to 148lbs in early 2014. I am starting the IP diet again today as I have gained some unwanted pounds and am back up to 168lbs. In February I had ACL surgery and my activity level dropped significantly. I am finding it hard to get into the grove I was in before my surgery.

Back when I first started the diet in 2013, I found a lot of support on this blog. Rarely posted, but enjoyed reading everyones recommendations.

It was nice to see that the community has continued!

Happy losing!

I wish I had a picture of the rhubarb I got from my parents garden here in Labrador. Sliced it's about the size of a dime, nothing like yours Liana!

Re: rhubarb...don't forget to check the frozen fruit section as well. Although it is a vegetable it is often used in pies. Very often it is stocked there!

andre - THANK YOU!!!!

HT in Tyson's has at least 10 bags of frozen, organic rhubarb!!!!!!!!! I bought 2 bags today and will be back next week to stock up before folks start making the Thanksgiving run (for pies).

Chayote spiced "apples" are my warm go-to

Janeva's rhubarb compote is my cold go-to

So stoked!!!!!
