Question for those that started >300lbs. Did you lose muscle? Based on my last WI, I carry 151 lbs of muscle. I’m almost a month in now, so the excess water is gone. According to their body analyzer, at 25% body fat, I’m still going over 200lbs at 5’4”.

Should I expect to lose some muscle? I’m beginning to think I would make a good body builder.

Lean mass doesn't measure "muscle".
It measures everything in your body that is not fat: blood, bones, organs, muscles, connective tissues, blood vessels, water, EVERYTHING

As we lose weight, we don't need as much of some of this other stuff...including muscle. It takes more muscles support to move a 300+ lb body than a 200 lb body.

Also keep in mind that hydration levels have a significant effect on the "lean mass" measurement--so "losing" a couple pounds of "muscle mass" in a week could be nothing more than the fact that you drank more water before weigh-in last week...Not that it's not something to pay attention to, but (like most week-to-week variations) not worth getting wrapped around the axel about

PS, stumbled on to a YUMMY YUMMY combo this afternoon. I brewed some really strong chai, no sweetener, and then poured it and my chocolate RTD over ice. Took the sweetness level down, added great complex flavors, and felt like such a treat!

I wish I had some explanation. All I can say is that I have been there. Sometimes I get back on the wagon immediately, sometimes it takes weeks.

What I have found works is to do something special to take care of myself - new nail polish, a day at the spa for a mani pedi...whatever. Somehow once I start "caring" I keep caring and that often extends to what I eat.

I do know how hard it is and the only support I can give is to not give up. Just because you have had a challenge or lost the battle does not mean that you have lost the war!

Today at lunch we were discussing our weight, diets etc. I work with 7 women. Anyway, my friend tells me " you should try the diet I'm starting today" just drink this coffee and don't eat bread and dessert in the same day. I kinda wanted to laugh, I know how hard I have worked for the last 12 weeks and if it were that easy we'd all be thin. Anyway, I'm so glad I found IP and have stuck to it.

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posing, however I have been reading for a few weeks now. I have been following IP for about 4 weeks, and have lost almost 16 lbs. I am so glad that I found this, it has been very helpful so far.

What are some of your strategies with using restricted items and select veggies. I eat one restricted a day and sometimes will do one or two cups of selected veggies. I don't do more than the 4 cups on the veggies though. I'm afraid I might be over doing it.

Hope you enjoy it. PM me and I will give you my enhancement recipe. (It's on my computer and I am on my IPad).

You are allowed one restricted per day and it is built into the plan. Most people who have tried and compared don't find any difference in losses when they cut it out, so eat and enjoy.

On the phase 1 protocol sheet, you can see you are allowed select veggies every day... 2 cups + 2 cups. Did you mean to ask about occasional veggies? They are limited to twice per week.

Lisa: praying for a peaceful night. How awful this has been. Thinking of you and sending prayers.

Making Rainbow Soup tonight. It's organic fat free chicken stock with lots of brightly colored veggies chopped up and thrown in: red/yellow/orange bell pepper, white onion, zuccini, yellow squash, celery and a few chopped up tomatoes. Seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and some herbs from the garden. I divide it up equally into pint mason jars and store in the fridge. I either reheat and eat it alone or chop up my dinner protein and heat it up with that. For some zing I add hot sauce or jalepenos after I've heated it up. Makes the veggies doable for me

Tuscany- your soup looks really yummy. Peppers are a favorite of mine but I've always been shy of squash... I'll have to try it out. I made pork cutlets with a spicy rub (paprika, onion & garlic powders, cumin, cayenne & salt) then seared the peppers in the same pot.
Jmwkst- congrats on the 16 pounds!
