Good morning. Did a yoga routine designed to stretch and relax. I had quite an active day yesterday so it was much needed!

Back to 5 day work week!

Does anyone know where I can find a phase 2 and 3 guide? I don't need them yet but I'd like to have them for when I'm ready

Well, WI #4: 0 pounds lost.

I am trying not to let the negative thoughts creep in...the naysayer is trying deperately to tell me that this is yet another diet that is just not going to work for me, that I have now exhausted my last hope, that I am destined to be fat forever. That stupid, stupid voice. I am trying hard to remember all the great advice, encouragement, and words of wisdom I have read on here. Trying to remember that even though I have seen plenty of people with losses every week listed underneath their signatures, there must be plenty of people out there just like me. Trying to remember that just because I didn't lose anything this week doesn't mean that I am doing anything "wrong." I have been 100% OP (with alternatives) since Day 1. Trying to tell myself not to cut out the restricted item I've been having every day just because of 1 week with no loss.

The rational side of this diet is easy: follow the plan as written and it will work...the mental and emotional part is so tough when the loss doesn't always occur like we'd like it to! Sticking with it through the ups and downs is so hard for me, and something I am working to improve. Coming here and seeing how all of you are not just following the plan but living the plan is inspiring.

WHO'S WITH ME?? ANYONE WANT TO HELP ME BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF THE NAYSAYER IN MY HEAD TODAY?? LOL

IP43 04-21-2014 08:30 AM

So I've been "lurking" for a couple of weeks to decide what to do about joining IP again. Last time I lost 40 pounds, but also lost a lot of hair and didn't phase off properly so here I am again. I still have a bunch of food left so I've decided to give it a go without my coach until my IP products are gone. Then I'll decide if I go back to my coach or do alternatives. I hope they don't recharge me to join if it has been a year? I really have missed the "chat" part of my weight loss journey, so .... here I am again! :)

Have a great week everyone. I still have today at home but I know a lot are back to work, so I will relish my day off!

Nah... we're lovers not fighters. Here...

This really is a "mind" game. So surround yourself with some positive thinking. It's not necessarily a positive quote but it's true "If you think you CAN or think you CAN'T, ... you're right". You can do this and when you feel that naysayer talking to you, pull out that inner child, stick out your tongue and say "I can't hear you!" .... even give it one of these:crazy:

As much as I wish there was something that I could say to you that would instantly make you feel better, this is one of those STUPID weight loss emotions you just have to work through. In my experience it's usually grief, anger, and acceptance. Haha. I've seen this many times on here, so I know it's not just me. Weight loss is NOT linear. Our minds think it should be, which is why we get so disappointed. Try to hold on to the thought that you HAVE lost weight, so you are in a better place than when you started and you may not have lost this week, but you didn't gain! Think about your NSV this week. It could have been not being tempted, hearing a compliment, or your clothes fitting differently. Did you get measured? Inches lost are better than numbers on the scale! :)

JLUS 04-21-2014 08:35 AM

marylandMom
Week 4 (for some week 3) is notorious for little to no loss!!!!! So much so that many coaches warn clients to expect it so they are prepared!!

You have lost MORE than three pounds per week over the last three weeks, which is FANTASTIC!! NOw your body needs to regroup and adjust to your losses which is perfectly normal.

Do NOT start stressing - stress can stall losses!

There are plenty of other things in addition to the number on the scale that you need to learn to incorporate into your view of this journey: are you measuring inches lost (some weeks inches come off even with no pound drop); are your clothes fitting a bit differently; are you walking or climbing stairs with less effort; is your face a bit thinner; do your rings fit less snugly...

There are MANY ways to evaluate success that have no relation to the scale. We call these NSVs (non scale victories). Start keeping track of those and sharing them as well as noticing the NSVs posted by others, it really helps to keep motivated and keep on track.

Now, take a deep breath and start replacing the negative thoughts with positive ones. We KNOW you can do this!!!

IP43 04-21-2014 08:40 AM

Oh -- and the other thing to remember: The crabbier/more emotional you feel, that means there's more estrogen floating around that has been released from your fat, which is a sign it's WORKING... If you remember that, you'll "embrace" the crabbiness :)

NaeNae2113 04-21-2014 08:49 AM

Good Morning Everyone
I am so excited!! I started IP last Wednesday and was really worried about surviving Easter without going of plan. But I did it!! This plan has been so easy and besides the extreme hunger I had on my 3rd day have not been hungry at all. I will not have my first weigh in until Thursday and have not stepped on my scales at home. I have decided to only weigh once a week with my coach, just say true to the plan and let it work. Hope everyone has a great OP week.

Awesome advice...thank you so much! My clothes do not seem to be fitting differently so I don't think I have lost inches. But I love your focus on that I didn't gain and that I HAVE lost weight. I need to give myself more credit for what I HAVE accomplished rather than beat myself up for what I haven't accomplished YET (because I WILL get there!)

MarylandMom - you've received some excellent advice! Hang in there and don't let yourself get discouraged - you're doing fantastic.

And as I told someone on another thread, do what I do when that little voice starts piping up - drown the little sucker with more water!

IP43 04-21-2014 09:42 AM

Oh the joy/sorrow of tracking food and weight loss on My Fitness Pal. All my IP food is still stored there so tracking will be a cinch. BUT all my measurements from last JUNE when I last measured were also still there. There must be some "technical glitch" as they all seemed to have gone up at least an inch... does "inflation" affect MFP?:?: .... Okay, no wise cracks about the inflation of my middle tire either! :p

Okay, day 1: Shake for breakfast. Check. Water bottle filled and 1/8 drank. Check. Vitamins taken. Check. Salad ready for lunch. Check. Bugged my friends on 3FC. Check.

.....hey not bad for 9:40 a.m. Still a long way to go in the day but off to a good start.

CarbLover443 04-21-2014 09:49 AM

I have a question for you guys. My mother in law is doing Medifast and she gave me one of her packets to make ice cream. I'm not sure if I should eat it though..I'm nervous...but I would really love some ice cream. Here are the stats:

Cals 110
Fat 2.5 g
Total Carbs 14 g
Fiber 4 g
Sugars 8 g
Protein 11 g

Would I eat this as a restricted item? Or is the sugar way too high?

I survived countless parties while staying OP since starting this IP journey, but all my carefully crafted plans for Easter were blown out of water. I had no intention of going off plan, but I did. In a big way. I refuse to beat myself for it and today is a new day with a renewed commitment and determination to this program that is working so well for me.

I did learn something that sort of really scared me. Once I gave myself permission to go ahead and have "forbidden" food, I could not stop myself. I kind of overindulged. I realize that I really have to start do to some work on my inner voices, my self control, whatever it is. I am definitely going to go get that book that Lisa quotes in her daily motivation "The Beck diet solution".

Have a great OP day!

I think this is why 100% is necessary for many people. I had a fun day Saturday and it was really my first one since being on P4. Did a reset P1 day yesterday and sure enough all pounds are gone and I feel good today. Interesting the way that works.

kontesanera - I read this and remember some really trying times that I have been through that sound very similar to what you have posted. I have since then purchased the Beck book as well as others to try to get some insight into my behaviors.

All I can say at this point is that I KNOW that having forbidden food sends me on a downward spiral, unable to control my overindulging. It can take me a week or many weeks to get it back under control.

So I am not sure what I am going to do to deal with that in the future when I reach goal but I know, for me, that NOT going off is the key. I have not been cured of obesity, no matter what my weight is. I need to accept that and embrace whatever help I can get in trying to understand it.

A book which has helped me is "Fat Chance, Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Foods, Obesity and Disease". It does not necessarily help with figuring out my mental process, but it is so brutal and frank about what all the things mentioned in the title do to the human body that it almost scares me into compliance.

If I can keep that information in the forefront of my mind, it may make it easier to tackle those tough moments.

Good luck and just hang in there.

kontesanera Thanks for your confession and showing us the "real" side of struggling to lose this weight... it sounds like you have a good mental attitude about it and you have learned from the experience... I indulged while on vacation and it resulted in me struggling for awhile to get back on track... prepare yourself!! I too should go get that book, Lisa has peaked my interest!

It's an easy mindset to get into "Oh well - I've cheated now. I may as well go crazy and start again tomorrow". However, we've had many "I'll start tomorrow"s which is why we're here in the first place. Good for you for getting back on track and recognizing that you have to work on your mindset. The diet is temporary but eating is for life. If we don't fix how we look at food, the weight won't stay off later.

Maybe we should have a "thoughts of the day" or "Favourite quotes" thread and we could ask Lisa to post her "Beck" inspirational thoughts there - and others could put favourite quotes etc. When people need a morale boost, they don't have too look too far for some words of wisdom :) Just a thought...

SophieLT 04-21-2014 10:39 AM

I just got the book and am super excited about reading it. This is the area where I really need help (mental side of things). I know I will lose weight if I stay OP but need to know what else to do mentally.

babykadea 04-21-2014 10:45 AM

I've been on ideal protein since November 15, 2013. I weighed 171, my goal was 135. I lost an average of 2 pounds a week. My total loss was 25 pounds, which at that point I phased off for a week as I had a mexico trip which was planned long before I started this program. When I came back I immediately went back on the program, which was February 10th. Since I have gone back on the program I have lost 7 pounds in a total of 10 weeks (feb 10 to now). Most weeks have been a zero loss. It is extremely discouraging as I am 100% on plan all of the time, but I'm not seeing results like I did before I went on vacation. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?

On my third week I was actually up .5lb and I was like you feeling very disappointed and discouraged but I didn't give up. I also noticed many people on here did have a week where they didn't lose any weight as well. They next week I weighed in and had lost another 4.5. Today would've been my normal weigh in day but the clinic is closed so I have to wait until thursday but I am feeling optimistic.
So hang in there, keep good thoughts and look forward to the next week where you should have some loss to show for all of your hard work!! You are doing great!! Stay positive!!! :dust:

I completely understand. I ate 3 pieces of pizza this weekend and I honestly could have ate more! I thought after one I would be so full that I wouldn't want anymore...not so! I also had some frosting from a cake and as soon as I ate it I got SO sick. It was immediately time to GO HOME. Anyone else experience this? On a positive side, I was able to FINALLY go the bathroom. Also positive? I've had NO desire to eat any Easter candy!

I have heard that it is harder to lose the second time around. Not sure why. So for those on track STAY ON! However, I'm about to start for the second time and I haven't been OP for a long time so I'm curious as to whether I will see the same results as I did a year ago when I started. Time will tell....

kontesanera 04-21-2014 11:11 AM

Thank you all for your support. I honestly think that if I had the time to check in on these boards yesterday, I probably would have stayed on track. I was also thinking of emailing my coach today, just to stay accountable. Trying to hide what happened yesterday could lead to revert to my old ways, pretending to eat healthy in front of others, then stuffing myself with junky things when no one is looking. I refuse to be that again, it is so shameful and humiliating to go back there. I also refuse to turn 1 day of relapse into 2, then 3, then weeks on end. I also refuse to beat myself for it because as we all know, "relapse is part of recovery", and this journey is not just about losing weight, it is also about freeing myself from the bonds of my addiction to food. I also think that I learned a valuable lesson yesterday that will spring me into action and make me more aware of my relationship with food.

AmberLS 04-21-2014 11:31 AM

Well I survived... however I gained a pound since weigh in Saturday for the summer challenge making this weeks loss my lowest ever at 1.2lbs, I did eat a couple hard boiled eggs and I wasn't very good with my vitamins this week, but I'm still a little surprised to have gained from Saturday... Oh well there's always this week!! LOL

Sometimes its not the eggs or vitamins.... sometimes your body is just holding onto a little water or adjusting to your weight loss. Your losses have been awesome! Keep up the great work!

MellyIP 04-21-2014 11:39 AM

I too struggled this weekend with eating properly. I drove home on Friday and figured there would be veggies at my boyfriend's parents' place - NOPE! No grocery stores were open so I wasn't able to get any veggies in all day. We went to a local bar to see a performance and by the time we got back I was starving - I gave in and had a venison pepperette. I felt so guilty the next day - I wish it was a bad dream. However it gave me strength for Saturday and Sunday. Even when family kept asking over and over for me to eat something I stayed strong. I'm nervous about letting my coach know but I'm human.

Hiker88 04-21-2014 11:46 AM

I was able to stay OP but had to plan, plan, plan!! My parents wanted to take me out for supper last night and I said no... I eat in so many restaurants when I travel for work that I love being home and having control over how things are prepared. I slow cooked a roast and it was scrumptious! The folks leave this morning so last night I threw all the leftover carbs in the garbage and I'm making them take the bread and jam I bought for them. I now have a solid month before I have any travel or house guests so I'm looking forward to a whole month with no distractions!

cooluu 04-21-2014 12:22 PM

I had a question forgot to ask at my appointment today. I've been using spinach to make my salads as I like that better. I'm not counting that as part of my veggies. Is that ok to do?

The suggestion they gave to me was to watch how my body responded - I am not very carb sensitive at all, so it made no difference to me using fresh spinach. On the other hand if you are eating 2C of cooked/wilted spinach that is definitely a vegetable that should be counted! See how your weight and measures go before you make the decision, or mix your spinach with half romaine or other robust lettuces like a good spring mix.

How long have you been on IP plan?

I'm wondering if I'm "sensitive" to some types of whey proteins. I ordered a bunch of single-serving sample products from Nashua Nutrition and I have experienced significant "tummy distress" (severe bloating/pain) when I tried two of the syntrax products. I tried them several days apart... one was the nectar product and one was the matrix. Both times, I felt miserable for hours!! Enough that I don't want to risk trying another even though I have several that I purchased.

I know I have used other products that have whey in them, but I'm wondering if there is something different about the syntrax whey protein?? I guess it's time to start researching the different types of supplemental protein and figuring out how they differ. :barf:

My total loss was 25 pounds, which at that point I phased off for a week as I had a mexico trip which was planned long before I started this program. When I came back I immediately went back on the program, which was February 10th. Since I have gone back on the program I have lost 7 pounds in a total of 10 weeks (feb 10 to now). Most weeks have been a zero loss. It is extremely discouraging as I am 100% on plan all of the time, but I'm not seeing results like I did before I went on vacation. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues?

You have only 13 lbs to go...your body will fight to hold on to that, trust me - I know since we have similar weights - start & goal. I had a big stall and had to move on to Alternative Phase 1 to 'let my body know it wasn't being starved'. This is the plan used for people with insulin resistant diabetes. It includes 1 fruit/1 starch/1 lo-fat dairy a day. Once I did that, I began losing the last few pounds and phased into P3 at about 3 lbs over my goal weight where I CONTINUED to lose until maintenance. I am now 7 weeks into maintenance and having no problems whatsoever. You will be able to as well but remember that the less you have to lose, the slower it will come off. Hang in there, be patient and discuss this Alternative option with your coach. You can always google IP Alternative Phase 1 for a copy of the eating plan sheet if you are going it alone or to just get an idea of what I am talking about. Make sure you are drinking ALL your water, and taking all your vitamins especially calcium which helps with weight loss.

Well, than I must be dropping about 20 lbs this week! At least that is what my husband and son would say . . . I have been a real bear this week. ugh

Spinach is on the "Select Veggies" list, so definitely count it as part of your 4 cups of veggies! :) I have 2 cups of spring mix (or spinach) as a salad for lunch and then 2 cups of cauliflower at dinner... that makes it pretty easy to get my 4 cups in every day. :)

I have also blended 2 cups (1/2 cup actual) frozen spinach into my protein shake, and you can't even taste the spinach! ;) That's an even easier way to get 2 cups of veggies in. :D

If it makes you feel any better, a venison pepperette is the leanest pepperette and it IS protein. There are way worse things you could have gone for in this chocolate-fest filled weekend. Guilt is a wasted emotion. You learned. Move on. What do they say "The past is history. The future is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why we call it the present". Do right today. Who could ask more from you?

What does a bear do? Gives BEAR HUGS. Let your hubby and son know that this diet may give you a wicked case of PMS. It doesn't help their pain at all, but at least they'll understand if you start to cry, or yell because someone left the toilet paper roll empty.... Give 'em fair warning and a headstart to run... all will be well :p

The ideal protein daily videos actually say you can substitute raw spinach for lettuce-some posters say the spinach has more carbs so its not a good idea
others if its not on the sheet they aren't going to do it-no matter what

This is from comments on the ideal protein video on Handling social events. there was a recipe for a smoothie with spinach also shown on a video:
J Peacock- is official from ideal protein

Bette Dixon Says:

Smoothie sounds very good. However, Comment #98 asked if raw spinach count towards the 4 cups a day. The response was, if raw it is unlimited like lettuce. With that being said, does the raw spinach in the smoothie then Not count towards your veggies?

Jae Peacock Says:

It is matter of choice. If it is raw like in the smoothie you can count it or not. Likewise if you use it as a lettuce. If you cook it, it is automatically a veggie. This is where you have some discretion as a dieter. It is nice to count spinach as a veggie for those who have a hard time eating all of their veggies because it is light, yet full of nutrients. On the flip-side it can be filling for those who find plain lettuce isn't enough. In both cases, your responsibility as a dieter is to monitor your results, the scale will tell you if your choice is working for you or not.
