Happy Friday, everyone! I had a rockin day! I am feeling won-der-ful! :)

I have a few questions for anyone who can help me understand. I am a bit confused as far as a few things go.

1. Why is it that on IP we are not able to have more fat? I didn't think that fat could take you out of ketosis. My understanding is that being in ketosis is what burns fat so quickly while on IP. Am I mistaken? I realized today that I accidentally used too much oil and was a bit upset, but then wondered if it would truly hinder my loss.

2. I'm confused about the sugar.....many of the foods have grams of sugar on the nutritional label, but no sugar in the ingredients list (only sweeteners). Being that these items DO have grams of sugar, how does that affect the body different than an item with the same amount of sugars, but where the ingredient list says sugar? I know the IP plan is clear about staying away from sugar, but I keep getting confused when the food labels have sugar grams.

Thanks for helping me understand! :)

I'm SO happy it's Friday. I'm also thrilled tomorrow marks my first week on this journey! It hasn't been bad at all and, surprisingly, I haven't had any intense cravings. My weight has been stuck at the same place for 4 days now though and it's been a little frustrating. However, I did lose almost 8 pounds the first 3 days, so I will still have a good loss for the first week even if I don't lose tomorrow.

I got my Nashua order in last night and here are my current reviews:

Question about the oatmeal and pancakes (protidiet versions) - when I look at the stats, they both appear to be unrestricted. However, the IP instructional sheet says that all oatmeals and pancakes are restricted. Which should I go by? Thanks!

1. IP is a PSMF diet so it is low carb, low calorie, low fat. Many low carb diets don't limit fats as much. You are correct that fat won't kick us out of ketosis. The quick weight loss is due to the low EVERYTHING. Being in ketosis isn't necessarily what burns the fat. It sure helps with appetite suppression, tho! Dr T's first book had 1 Tbsp of oil, so don't get too upset over the initial overuse.

2. There are naturally occurring sugars and added sugars. We don't want any sugar on the ingredients list (added sugar), however veggies will have naturally occurring sugars, which appear as sugar grams on the nutritional label. You can ignore the "sugars" on the label, just make sure you read carbs & ingredients (to find/avoid added sugar).

3. IP Oatmeal is restricted. Off-brand labels may be different due to varying ingredients. For example, the ProtiDiet maple oatmeal is unrestricted, altho the IP version is restricted.

IdealProteinNewbie 01-11-2014 09:33 AM

Susie: I also recently bought a pair of size 32 Seven For All Mankind jeans at Goodwill for only $10.

I was so excited because before I wouldn't have been able to get one leg in there and the original tag for still on...$189!!!

coffeebean 01-11-2014 09:35 AM

When I feel like I need something sweet I will make the protdiet oatmeal into muffins, I will have this with a cup of coffee and that satisfies me. This is non restricted. It feels good to be in control even if it is temporary. When I fall off the IP wagon my eating gets out of control. IP gives me the confidence that I am in control. It is a nice feeling.

vachinyc 01-11-2014 09:45 AM

Good morning:

I think I am going to have to try the Protidiet oatmeal. Right now I buy everything at my clinic but I love oatmeal and am bummed that IP's is restricted.

Today was weigh in day for week 21 for me. I've had one of those "blue" feeling weeks...tom, sick, yucky weather, work was annoying...and really wasn't expecting a good weigh in. To my surprise - tho sometimes I do wonder about their scale - I'm down another 1.8. Nice inches lost this week too. Yay!

Even though I'm past the original goal I/clinic had set, bmi still isn't in the normal range and I'm not in range for most of the online weight calculators. All of these things have variance of course...but I'm also not in the size I'd expect. It's odd...when first on IP, sizes dropped quicker than weight and now I feel like at this weight, my sizes should be smaller? Anyway... I think i will stay phase 1 for a couple more weeks and see what happens. But I'm starting to feel ready to move forward into the phases.

I think I'm going to treat myself with a movie - gotta watch the good ones before the oscars :)

Happy weekend! And may you find your IP POWER!

PS Congrats Susie and IPN on the skinny jeans!

That's awesome! I can't wait to be able to fit into nice jeans. Congrats on the find and being able to fit into those...enjoy! :)

Things are going well, not so well that I am ready to go and buy jeans, yet, but fine. I have not worn jeans in over 20 years because all of my weight is centered below my waist and I look really weird in them. Can't wait to get to a weight where I have a more normal profile - the gym workouts should help.

I am one pound away from the 50 pound mark so I am being very careful, trying to make sure I hit the mark. I have yet to decide what I am going to do to celebrate.

GO SEAHAWKS

I'm right there with you at the 1lb away from 50, I haven't clue what to do to celebrate either. Maybe a massage.

WHO DAT! Geaux Saints!

KookySuki 01-11-2014 10:28 AM

Wow, 50 lbs is an exciting and major accomplishment, Schenectady & nolasmurf! Hope you ladies find something really special to reward yourselves.

Hawaii69 01-11-2014 10:36 AM

Way to go on the 50lb losses! Thats awesome!

Hiker88 01-11-2014 10:49 AM

schenectady and Nolasmurf Way to go!! 50 pounds is huge! I started feeling like I might look a little different when I hit 50 a whole 5 pounds ago. Make sure you do something special to celebrate and enjoy the reward!!

blondie739 01-11-2014 10:58 AM

50 pounds is an amazing accomplishment! Feels so far away but every time I hear someone has hit that mark, it gives me more hope!

This is my 2nd week in with my official weigh in tomorrow. My husband has joined me and we both stayed on track this week which feels really good. Looking forward to more experimenting with veggies this weekend.

:dance::dance:50 pound mark is a celebration !!
I suggest new spanx first and for sure..... (and you probably need some other new underwear by now). Your clothes WILL look nicer....the progress WILL show...and then go try on jeans and some new clothes...even if you are just window shopping on the clothing! (Don't forget the resale shops!!!)

YEA for both of you!!!

nolasmurf 01-11-2014 11:20 AM

Lol yes new spanx! And undies. I just spent $180 on bras and undies at VS after Xmas. I went from a 40DD to a 38 C. Gosh I hope the girls don't get much smaller! So let me ask ya'll a question I have 7 VS bras that are in great condition, I don't want to throw them away, do thrift stores take them? Would anyone here like them? I can take pics and email them to anyone interested. I'd just hate to throw away $30-50 bras. I bought the and ended up only wore one mostly every day. Shame huh

drd1961 01-11-2014 11:34 AM

Good morning everyone. I got up and did some weight lifting and then hit the pool for a swim. Then hit the Kohls clearance racks. I am solidly in a size 6 now and my 8 jeans are riding low on the hips. I have laundry to do so I am going to work on that and do another sort of clothes. I think a Good Will trip is in order.

A swimming friend has been doing weight watchers since last summer and we are about the same age, same height and within a couple of pounds. I was leaving the pool and she was coming and our reaction was the same to each other....skinny you!!! So funny. She looks great.

sarahBell 01-11-2014 11:34 AM

Anyone in PLano, Tx???

We are taking a trip to plano next month, DH has training down there and the whole family is coming. I Need to know where and what is there to do for me and the kids?

We will be there for a week. We are staying close to the HP Unv. campus.Hotel is yet to be decided!

That is awesome!! My sister and I are hitting some thrift stores today to look for clothes for Mexico - here's hoping we can find some good deals like that :D

If I wasn't in the same boat - and the same size now - I'd totally take those off your hands, lol! But yes, thrift stores will take them.

Happy Saturday everyone! My sister and I are heading out to the thrift stores today while my son is at a friend's birthday party and I can't wait! Got some good deals last weekend so fingers crossed some different stores will have some good deals too.

It has been a really good week - we started another Biggest Loser challenge at work and despite currently phasing off for Mexico, I joined. It's ends up that I'm the smallest one in my group in weight! I've never been the smallest anything in any group!!! And this week seems to be the week that everyone is really noticing my weight loss - I'm trying to get better at accepting those compliments as well.

Hope everyone has a great day and I'll hopefully report back on some good deals ;)

Planning on a great day!

Made a loaf for today - strawberry pudding/vanilla drink mix - my favorite. Have a skating party this afternoon.

Made a loaf for tomorrow - banana pudding/chocolate drink mix for when I take the kids skiing 1 hour away. We are going to pack our lunch for tomorrow - veggies/my loaf/ and sandwiches for the boys. Should be a great day.

Got great news a work yesterday that I am over the moon about -almost cannot believe it, feels great to be listened to and heard.

Can anybody offer advice? I'm gaining and losing the same pound over and over. I'm not cheating... How can I bust through this plateau?

Butterfly queen 01-11-2014 12:31 PM

Need help: I am not a cook but trying to learn so that I will not get bored with the program. I have been craving Chinese spicy cabbage. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make this IP friendly? Thanks in advance.

We would need more info
Starting weight
Current weight
Height
How long on plan
Sample food menus from last several days
How long stuck on the same lb?

Getting excited about the SEAHAWKS game this afternoon!!! Going to make some deviled eggs, veggie tray, kale chips and a taco salad bar.

Love hearing all the losses (big & small) and smaller jeans & bra sizes...you guys rock!

Okay - I bought a rutabaga at the store. I have never eaten rutabaga (that I recall). I am anxious to tru the rutabaga fries. Anyone have any helpful hints?

I will probably have them with Big Mac in a bowl tomorrow during the Broncos/Chargers game. Go Broncos.

Yum! I slice them in fry-sized pieces, mist with olive oil, then sprinkle on sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder and cayenne pepper but your favorite spice blend will do. Cook at 350* for 40ish minutes then hit them on broil to crisp them up.

Watch carefully, they will burn fast. I recommend not leaving the kitchen while you're broiling...time will pass quickly and 30 seconds too much will result in inedible rutabaga fries (basically a very unfortunate event, I speak from experience)

Enjoy!

Ps. I line the cookie sheet with foil. I am lazy :D

IPN - thanks. I will most likely do the same spice blend as you. Thanks for the tips. By the way, I'm lazy too so will use the foil trick, I use to make oven fries like this using potatoes,

I know you're trying to switch up your foods. Any veggie roasted with this spice blend is amazing, particularly zucchini and cauliflower.

Smooshie76 01-11-2014 02:40 PM

Busy with the kids now but will add that info when I can. I'm stuck at 150, was 170 when I started the plan, have been bouncing around here since October but cheated all through December.

calypso58 01-11-2014 02:41 PM

Vachinyc congrats on the 9 inches! That's awesome. :dancer::dancer::dancer:

schenectady and nolasmurf Wow 50 pounds is great! I hope you find a really great reward for this milestone!:bravo::cp::cb:

blondie739 stick with it and you will get there. It's fabulous that your husband is joining you.:cheer3::cheer2:

drd1961 Yay for size 6! :broc::broc: I was just hoping to get to a 10 but everyone here is giving me the courage to shoot for a 6 myself!

sarahBell When I get ready to go for real final wardrobe shopping, I'm going to the Galleria in Dallas. It's just south of Plano. I know it's probably not the best thing to do with the kids, but I hope you find time to check it out. I find the selection is way better than what I find here in Austin. I'm not sure what family things are open in February. I hope you have fun!

PurpleMomster Good luck at the thrift stores. I had hoped to do the same today myself but I hosted our weekly poker game last night and they played until 430 this morning. I am wiped out!

lisa32989 ditto on what everyone else is saying about your new pic. You look so happy! I love it!

Time for a nap. Then tonight I am going back to my old church to watch a production that my ex husband and his girlfriend put on. I haven't been back in a while and every time people whisper. We were very active in the church and when I left him it shocked everyone because they think he's the greatest. I never wanted to air our dirty laundry. I'm happy to go feeling lighter and happy and doing things for myself (finally)! They can whisper all they want now because it won't bother me anymore and I think this weight loss journey has a big thing to do with my new attitude! :D

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

I have found I prefer them as chips rather than fries - I just kind of thin slice them, do whatever seasonings I want and then bake them (I also use foil cause I'm lazy!).

I have had a 9 pound loss this week. Very exciting!!!!

Congrats on the 50 pound loss, that is a great prize for a lot of hard work!

I'm going to hide the scale this week and only weigh in on Saturday mornings. The daily weigh ins depress me when they fluctuate. I've been thinking of only weighing in on my wii fit. Does anyone know if they are accurate?

Thank you for clearing up my question about the fat and sugar. That helps me understand a bit better.

In other news, I continue to try out my Nashua products. Had a pancake with wf pancake syrup this morning. While the syrup was good, the pancake had a strange taste. The same taste that the chicken noodle soup had. I'm wondering if its the protein? I guess my taste buds are just sensitive to it.

lisa32989 01-11-2014 03:33 PM

Zoerba: The best time to determine your wiifit accuracy would have been right after your WI - to compare the two.

Mine is pretty accurate but I don't know if all are.

Well, if you've been cheating, you've answered your own question.
Stick to the plan. Give it time to work.
Stay off the scale except for weekly WIs. And know what causes inflammation (water weight)

these items aren't going to taste exactly like their flour/sugar/fat cousins. We definitely must adjust our palates

I've never tried rutabaga, nor would I even know what they look like in the store...but I want to try those fries or chips.

I'm a little worried about tomorrow. I will be at an event (chaperoning someone while she hosts a concert) from 8am to 5pm. I don't know what I'm going to do about food. I can take a bar and maybe a bag of veggies to munch on. Any other ideas? Not sure if there will be a "green room" with snacks and such. I'm guessing so, because the performers will need to eat something at some point...but who knows what will be in there. Any tips??

Ready to watch the game with my healthy snacks... GO HAWKS!!!!

Jendilly - totally didn't know what a rutabaga looked like - relied on the signs in the store

Happy Saturday everyone! It's rainy and warm here in virginia. Almost 70 degrees! I'm definitely enjoying the break from single digit temps. I head back to school next week :( I'm not ready for this break to be over, it has been so relaxing. Working full time and going to school full time is pretty stressful but I graduate in May so at least there is a light at the end of this tunnel!

Decided to make a lot of my food for next week today so that I have one less thing on my plate (ha ha) while I'm getting acclimated to my schedule.
So far I have portobello 'pizza' topped with loads of veggies, lean burgers for Big Mac in a bowl, ground lamb seasoned with Greek seasoning (I'm going to try the 'taco salad' Greek Style) and a Thai ginger soup with mushrooms, basil and bok choy.
