  • I found a great definition of ketosis.

I found this on another web site (http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Ketosis_Symptoms) I wanted to make sure to give it proper credit. I only copied the symptoms. There is a complete definition on there.

I was excited to see this cause I keep seeing the threads about urine and bad breath. But I'm not seeing that as much as the dry mouth and buzzed feeling & some bursts of energy. Its nice to have my systems affirmed. Yeah!

Early stage symptoms include the following:

    Tiredness or fatigue

    Headache

    Feeling thirsty all the time

    Dry mouth

Ketosis breath, which smells vaguely fruity and not terribly pleasant

Metallic taste in the mouth, particularly on the back of the tongue near the molars

    Weakness

    Dizziness

    Nausea or stomach ache

    Sleep problems

    Cold hands and feet

    Frequent urination

Ongoing States As your body adapts to ketones, your symptoms may change or abate altogether. If you are using ketosis strips, your urine may still show ketones present, although probably in far lower concentrations. This is nothing to worry about. The amount of ketones in your urine does not correlate to the rate of weight loss.

As your body adapts to ketones, you may notice the following:

    A "buzzed" feeling

    Increased energy

    Normalized urination frequency

    Better sleep

    Euphoria

    Clear thinking
  • Thanks for posting this. I've had frequent urination in addition to many of the other symptoms. I didn't think to connect the two. I was getting worried!
  • I think most of us could attribute frequent urination to vast quantities of water!!!
  • Thank you so much for posting this information. I must be in the adaptation stage. I feel super positive with tons of energy and my kids say I'm a tad spazzy at times. I do occasionally feel fatigue, but the majority of time I'm an energizer bunny.
  • Thanks for the post on Ketosis. It does explain a lot lol
  • I wonder how long it takes for your body to adapt to ketones. I'm only on week 3, but some days I'm soooo tired!
  • Thank you so much for posting this information! Makes me feel a little better about some of my symptoms!
  • You're welcome & I've noticed mine come and go a little. I have extremely bad dry-mouth but it went away for a few days. Now it's back in full swing. It sucks. My lips are soooooo chapped.
  • I am finally feeling reasonably good on the diet (I have been on 2 full weeks). However, I am ADD so I'm noticing that my former Inner Engergizer Bunny is gone. Feeling LESS motivated than I used to as I'm a go-go-go person. At least now that I feel okay I can hope energy is not too far away. It gets better daily.

In a way it's a good thing that you sort of have to go through the fire the first week or two, it conditions you to want to avoid having to go through the carb withdrawls etc. again so it's easier for me not to cheat because I am physically incentivized by the weight loss AND the desire to never repeat my Day 4 symptoms.
  • I am on day 5 and all day I had this weird taste in my mouth. Kind of metallic! Nice to have that explained Thanks for posting!
  • I find I bruise easier while in ketosis as well.
  • Actually, my husand was joking that this plan is very aptly named "IP" = I pee!
  • LOL! Love it!

    lol

When I did IP in 2011 and lost 35 lbs. I always felt tired, I never got the "rush", as soon as phase 3 came with dairy and some fruit, I felt much better and no more "C" issues. Just my experience
  • Thanks for this list. I am day 3 and had to get up 4 times last time to pee. This coming from someone that was called iron bladder in college because I never went.
