I ask sooo many questions when eating out. My mom has to because she has celiac. Being on a sugar/carb restricted diet is my "medical" issue right now so I do the same thing!

I've posted this in another thread, but I'll re-post it again since we're talking about different restaurants:

Ihop puts a scoop of pancake batter in their omelets to make them fluffy. If you're ever out and order a veggie omelet there make sure you ask for "freshly cracked" eggs. This will ensure you're only getting eggs and veggies.
Thanks--- we did know about the pancake batter in the eggs and always order fresh egg whites everywhere because of that ...We actually have 2 kids with celiac, and have learned a lot. I am gluten intolerant so adding the no sugar no salt to my ordering litany was an easy addition for me. My oldest daughter had severe food allergy as a young child...and our granddaughter has them even worse. Peanuts and ALL tree nuts..shellfish, and a long list of fruits and vegetables! Apparently there is a cross reactivity that can happen in severely allergic individuals where the body can not differentiate between pollen/respiratory allergens and food from plants that have a similar molecular makeup. We are all (10 of us) going to stay at a beach house on Captiva Island in the second week of June...and my daughter will do ALL the groc shopping for our 11 YO grand daughter. There will be epi pens everywhere...even the 7 YO knows how to administer. We are very careful...and will be sticking to a few basic items for everyone and food will certainly not be a focus, which makes this easier for me. Instead... got seashell bags for everyone...and today getting headband flashlights to watch the hermit crabs and other critters that move on the beach at night! We'll play games with the kids and there is also a pool and a large deck to watch sunsets with the house. We plan to babysit the 4 young ones a lot so our 2 daughters and their spouses can have a few date nights. As it should be!

Seashell bags? I don't know much about shellfish allergies but couldn't there be a problem with the other people bringing seashells back to the living quarters? Also, isn't there the chance she could react to someone who has touched those seashells? Or are seashells not a problem for someone who has a shellfish allergy? My internal alarm went off when I read your post but, since I am not very familiar with this type of allergy, I could be way off base and apologize in advance if that is the case.

Galpal...thanks so much...can't believe none of us got that ringer going off....
I will have my daughter check with her allergist. These diagnosis are all relatively new...it started last summer at age 10 when she stopped eating... Finally after many exasperated conversations she finally told her mom " inside my mouth burns everytime I eat.." We have not had any seafood when they are visiting in the last year and this never crossed my radar...or my daughters! Update to follow....

Boston Market has some good choices. Obviously they have the turkey and rotisserie chicken. They even have some better veggie options than I remember them having. They also have some good salads.

Wendy's has some good salads too.

But my favorite is a local fast-food restaurant near me in the South Florida area called "Pollo Tropical." Its grilled chicken marinated in mojo (a Latin marinade). It is SO good! I live on that chicken!

There is a chain restaurant across the country called McCormick & Schmick's I had never ventured into in my life as it's meat and seafood. I needed fish while in NYC, it was nearby and I was pleasantly surprised.

They have a little "diet" section outlining all the nutritional data on a selection of dishes. I chose the salmon and grilled vegetables, which was something super low like 300 calories and totally fit IP. It was absolutely delicious. I would recommend.

I ate at the bar and didn't even miss having a glass of wine with lunch.

I have been to McDonald's and Caryl Junior's and have had a burger with lettuce as the bun with onions . mushrooms and have had no problem with it.

You can take off the bun to address the carb issue, but what about the fat issue? Burger chains don't use LEAN ground beef, which is what we are supposed to be choosing.

Glad I found this thread. I'm meeting a friend from out-of-town at McDonald's for dinner tomorrow so her energetic little boy can play while we talk. I'm trying to figure out if there's anything there I can actually eat, or if I should take a RTD with me, or eat beforehand.
