Here's my two cents on broths/stocks... I'm allergic to MSG and have found through research (and personal experience) that the yeast extract in broths/stocks made by companies like College Inn and Swanson's turns into MSG when heated. It took me a long time and several trips to the ER to understand why I was having an allergic reaction when MSG wasn't on the label.

Ideal Protein TV has a great video series on MSGs effect on our appetite and weight loss - the video list is here on 3fatchicks.com.

I now use Kitchen Basics brand. It can be found at Safeway, Vons, Trader Joes and Wegmans. The broth does have honey as the next to last ingredient and has 1 carb per 8 oz. I've asked my coach if this will affect my weight loss in phase 1 and she is looking into it.

Hi Everyone!

I'm in Alaska visiting family, brother's wedding coming up this weekend.

NSV - I made it through my first test. At sister's house, and I'd already eaten my IP food, and she pulls bbq ribs off the grill.

GRRRR that was hard! But I sat and drank my water and watched everyone else eat. I am capable! LOL

I had my WI#1 today and am down 8.2lbs, hooray!! I can definitely feel myself getting back into the swing of things. I made lettuce wraps last night with roasted veggies, roasted chicken, and dijon mustard. Forgot how much I love lettuce wraps.

Question for those that weigh-in at home: do you pick one spot and take the weight no matter what? My scale is different depending on spot in the bathroom. Don't know if I should take the larger or smaller number lol.
I weigh in at home. I use the same scale, in the same area, the same day of the week and the same time and I wear the same clothes every time. I just completed week 4 and I'm doing this on my own using alternatives. I am down 18.8 lbs.

I make my own.
MSG has given me migraines since childhood and I've been making my own broths since college
If you do some reading about the health benefits of bone broth, you probably will too!!!

There are also websites where you can find "hidden sources of MSG". Very important for us MSG-sensitive folks!

I love my OMRON that does claim to measure %Body Fat and Muscle Mass etc. I took my initial measurements with it and then watched as the numbers changed. If the official tests were done the numbers might have been a little different but all I really needed to see was the numbers going in the right direction. It was then compared with the one at our doc's office and showed identical numbers. We've had it 5 years and only replaced the batteries once. It also has a memory for up to 3 folks and/or visitors. Smile...

Good afternoon everyone.

I am busy chopping up veggies for work lunches for the next couple of days and never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine that I would have to monitor how many veggies I am "tasting" as I prepare them. Lasagne yes, but veggies? Hopefully in the final phase they are no longer a restricted amount!

I have really enjoyed blending fresh spinach for pudding shakes. Does anyone know if blending field greens works just as well? Curious

Have a great day everyone!

I find spinach pretty tasteless in the shakes. Other lettuces I can taste more & don't always enjoy

Day 4 here! So far so good Feeling much better than I did on Day 1. It all went up from there! My weekend was not nearly as bad as I was anticipating. Hopefully I'm over the hump!

Anyway, I just wanted my fellow newbies know that the cappuccino drink is DELICIOUS! It tastes like one of those Starbucks premade frappuccinos. YUM! This is a pleasant surprise after my not-so-delicious omelet this morning and pottage for lunch!

My favourite recipe is the vanilla pudding with egg whites and 2 oz of water; mix together, let stand for 5 minutes to thicken up and then pour in a waffle maker. It makes quite a few waffles and tastes delicious!
