How much tofu should we eat?

Hi,
How much tofu equal to daily intake of 8 oz protein? Please let me know.

Thank you

You need to eat enough to equal between 30g and 40g of protein.
It depends on the tofu. Usually the extra firm ones have more protein per serving but expect that you will eat more than one serving.
Try to pick the one with the lowest carbs per serving, too.
You could also have some tofu and some egg (if you eat eggs) to equal it out if you don't think you want that much tofu at one meal.

Thank you for your reply..can I take extra firm nigari tofu?

I was told not to eat 8 oz because it has a higher protein content than meat proteins. I was told (and read in an IP manual) to use 1/3 of a 16 oz package of tofu as my serving. I hope this makes sense!

I always get the extra firm...it's the one which is usually recommended in recipes. :)

Any tofu is fine. You just want to make sure the GRAMS of protein add up when you figure out serving size (as was mentioned, you want to have at least 30g protein for dinner). I looked up the Nasoya nigari tofu, 3oz of tofu has 8g protein - so you would have to eat almost the entire package (4.5 servings) to get the right grams of protein.

soy protein quantity

I use soy protein fairly often for my protein. This isn't scientific or from my clinic, but how I figure it is that the usual IP serving is 15-18 gms of protein, and I read on the package for whatever soy product I am using to get that many grams. I have found it is often more than what the package labels as one serving.

The 15-18g protein is only for the packets - that is not for the dinner protein portion. 8oz of meat protein is between 30 and 45 grams of protein.

1 egg white doesn't count as anything (you can actually have 2 egg whites per day as a "freebie") but 1 whole egg counts as 2oz of protein towards your dinner allotment.

I always enjoyed having hard boiled eggs in the fridge and would eat the egg white (only) with salt! It would fix those salt cravings... :)
