They have ramps in Vermont?? I have always thought of them as a West Virginia specialty. My parents grew up in WVa, and used to plan trips back every spring to get a "mess of ramps". I never developed a taste for them, though.

Had a good WI today--down 3.6 pounds!
I've noticed that when I lose weight, I don't lose inches. But when I don't lose much weight, I tend to lose inches. Only down .25 inches today (on my neck)

This is the second time recently I've read about sugar alcohols in Quest Bars... Lisa mentioned that the other day... and you two always know everything! But the Quest website says about the bars, "We've got 20 grams of protein, 4 non-fiber carbs, and no sugar alcohols or other junk." This is one of the reasons I switched my alternatives to include a Quest Bar every day. So is there something hidden they aren't talking about? I sure hope not, because I'm really lovin' them! I doubt they could make that statement if the bars actually do contain some type of sugar alcohol.

Quest bars use isomalto oligosaccharides instead of sugar alcohol. The following info from Wikipedia suggests that this substance could be gas inducing in some folks:
"Generally, all the digestion-resistant oligosaccharides have more or less adverse effects when consumed in amounts greater than permissible levels. IMO also have certain side effects when consumed in excess amounts. The maximum permissible dose of IMO that does not cause gastric disturbance is estimated at 1.5 g/kg body weight, which is higher than for any other sugar substitute.[28] However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended the intake level for IMO at 30 g/day.[29] This level is expected to be well tolerated with no or least side effects. In case of higher dosage (e.g., greater than 40 g/day), there is a possibility of gastrointestinal symptoms like flatulence, bloating, and soft stool or in some cases diarrhea."

[QUOTE=scorbett1103;4726753]The Quest bars use some sugar alcohols for sweetening, and those can definitely cause digestive issues. You may be a bit more sensitive than others to them. Maybe try a few days avoiding the sugar alcohols, then add them back for a day and see what happens?

You might be talking about a different place - Faunce Corner Nutrition only has one location, just over the bridge near the VF Outlets in Dartmouth. They sell bodybuilding supplements but also a whole bunch of products that are compatible with IP phase 1

[QUOTE=KeepMovingForward;4726552]So I used my Ketostix today and I went from being a dark purple to a light purple. Yesterday I had a 4th packet which was the Cheddar Ridges. Could this be the cause? I can't think of any other changes.
Quote:

Ignore the ketostix. If you are drinking enough water, ketones will barely register on them, even if it's your first bathroom trip of the morning. None of the IP packets has enough carbs in it to bump you out.
How many carbs would bump someone out of ketosis? Some articles are saying 30g and some are saying 50g but I know I've been in between these as I track my food on MyFitnessPal. Thanks for your help!!! =}

Some of the Quest bars do list Sugar alcohols in the nutritional information -specifically the Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cinnamon Roll, Strawberry Cheesecake, Coconut Cashew, and Lemon Cream Pie. Whether that is on the nutritional info on some bars due to the quantity of Oligosaccharides - that I don't know.

Either way, there are bound to be those people who are just more sensitive to the gastric disturbances Elimination is the best way to be a little more sure of the source.

Well it makes sense that their fiber source could cause some gastro issues, even though Quest claims they don't. But at least no sugar alcohols. Thanks, Lisa.

There's not really a pat answer for that, but on Phase 1 the daily carb intake is going to be somewhere in the 30-50g range - that does NOT mean that if you have 51g of carbs you will be bumped out of ketosis. Some people can stay in ketosis up to 80-100g carbs, others are more carb sensitive and may store glycogen with 60-80 carbs. The 30-50g range is just a safe zone that will deplete the glycogen stores for the majority of people.

Thought I'd go do the My fitness plan thing, it's asking for how many of all the nutrients, I know 30-50 carbs, is it 20 fat and 50 protein? How about the fiber and all that, does it mater what I put in?

Very nervous about maintenance. Do you have any pointers? I'm afraid the cravings and hunger will come back with a vengeance.

I track protein, fat, carbs, fiber
Based on input from my coach, Protein is approx 50%, Fat 30%, Carbs 20%. I set fiber grams at 20 so I could easily subtract fiber from total carbs to get net. My calories are set at 950 and I'm almost always under that.

The 100% natural line has erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol.

I love both. Kale chips are pretty bad if burned or even brown. They have to be crisp but still green.
I love mushrooms too.
