I don't get it?

Ok, I will make this as short as possible. Last week at WI I was on TOM, however still down 2.4 so I was really happy with that. I am a daily "scale stepper" and on Sunday I was down another 2 which I figured was what didn't show on last weeks weigh in. I have Been 100% OP and today I am up 2lbs??? Ugh, so fusturating. Any ideas why? Has this happened to anyone else?

If your OP it will come right back off..be patient, drink your water and wait it out

Mental breakdown of looking at the scale every day. Just relax and breathe :D

This happened to me a couple of times, I've stopped weighing myself at
home so often just once in the middle of the week. I think some of the foods
make me retain water, like the soups, they even taste salty, i dont buy those anymore. I'm sure were all affected by different things, hormones too.
A week after my TOM I got it again for a day, was not expecting that, had cramps and bloating too, then it went away and lost 1lb.
Guess just hang in there and stay OP, it will keep working.
Dont let the scale take you over, LOL! hard not to though, I know.
Have a great day!
ps i lost my smiley icons do you know how to get them back?

D

You know what's coming.... :)

If you can't emotionally detach from the number on the scale, daily weighing is going to stress you out.

Body weight can fluctuate by a few POUNDS from one day to the next. It is normal - that is why weekly weigh-ins are best, better for tracking the overall trend of your weight.

SO many things can affect what the scale tells you:
- whether you've gone to the bathroom
- water retention from a hundred different reasons (illness, exercise, inflammation, etc)
- hormone issues
- stress
- foods (sodium content)

Whether you choose to weigh daily is up to you - but you have to find that place where you can look at the number objectively and not stress out when the scale doesn't tell you what you expect.

One thing I can GUARANTEE is that you did not gain 2lbs of fat. That's not possible unless you sat down to an all you can eat buffet and went nuts for an afternoon.

Did you eat anything different this week? Are you coming down with a cold? Constipated? Did you exercise more in the last day or two than normal? Do you have muscle soreness? These are all things that have the potential to change the scale. But it's just water weight, and WILL flush away.

I too weigh myself every day but I know from one day to the next the scale will fluctuate so I don't stress over it. If you are sticking to the plan it will all work itself out. Don't worry!

Thank you everyone :). I feel so accountable when I don't see the scale changing the way I want, even though I am following the program. You are all right, I need to relax and realize that it will do what it suppose to. Thanks again :)

Yes please don't stress I can weigh myself three times a day and get a different number everytime. I have had a 5 pound difference before! Really can't go by that. There are so many factors at play. Just stay op and it will work out in the end.

I'm a daily weigher, too...unless I forget. :) I've found it helpful to weigh at the same time everyday. That way, when there is an up or down, I can think about what I did the day before/week before to see if there is a contributor. Of course, there's not always a direct link becuase this is not a straight down process, but it makes me think about salt intake and so forth. Even if the number goes up, its always an interesting data point.

I'm a daily weigher also. The exact same thing happens to me as what happened to you. The week just before TOM, I have a GREAT loss, then the week immediately AFTER TOM, I only seem to have a loss of .6 or .8, or NONE at all. I really haven't been able to figure out why it happens, just have come to accept it and expect it. Our bodies are amazing things.

fitandfabfrog 03-25-2013 04:20 PM

You don't see a loss in weight the week after TOM because your body is storing extra fat for just in case "YOU GET PREGNANT" and need that fat :). It is when you ovulate that you typically won't release the fat....hang in there, stay OP and your weight dreams will come true!

Daily weigh-ins at home are tough to stay away from for me. I know I shouldn't but I do it anyway. My scale has half pound increments. I was 200.0 yesterday and was looking forward to "breaking the barrier" this morning, only to see 200.5 on the readout. Maybe I should buy a new scale - this one clearly doesn't know how to measure weight! Haha.
