Change in calcium supplements?

  • I am almost certain this has been discussed before, but I didn't find it when I searched. (I saw a post that referred to an earlier post, and was unable to trace it any farther). Have they decreased the calcium requirements for IP? My friend has the new potassium pills that don't contain calcium, but my clinic is not selling those yet. What about the 4 Cal-Mag pills per day? I saw a recent story on a cable news network about new research indicating that too much calcium in the form of supplements can be harmful--specifically, it can increase the likelihood of plaque in arteries. That has me REALLY worried, because I have all kinds of heart disease in my family!
  • I think the only change was with the potassium supplement.

The 4 cal-mags per day are not harmful. They only contain 600 mg of calcium. It is when you are taking in excess of 1000-1200 mg that it can cause issues. Since we aren't able to have dairy on IP, you really need to take the supplements.
