Default Phase 3 confusion

Hi all,

I am new to this forum but have some confusion I am hoping you can help solve. I just moved to Phase 3 today (actually, starting it tomorrow), but the info I received from my clinic is different than what I am seeing online and I am not sure which is correct.

The overview sheet that I received from my clinic says that for breakfast, I should have:

1 protein (or IDEAL COMPLETE packet), I carbohydrate (grain and/or fruit) and 1 fat. OPTIONAL: Coffee/tea with 30ml (1 oz) of regular milk

It also says that "Ideal Complete must replace a protein and must be consumed once daily. When consuming Ideal Complete at lunch or dinner, you must still eat 4 ounces of your protein, always being mindful of your BMR." This Ideal Complete packet is in addition to an Ideal Protein food for snack!

But everything online says that breakfast should consist of 30g or less of Carbohydrates (subtract the grams of fiber from total carbohydrates), 20g or less of Fruit, 15g or less of Fat and 25g or less of Protein.
Breakfast should be between 400 and 500 calories in Phase 3.

And there is no mention anywhere of "Ideal Complete" packets on phase 3 that I can find, other than the snack.

I have attached the overview sheet I received from my clinic in case that helps.

SO, any help in clarifying would be greatly appreciated! I would have to have gone this far only to screw it up because of conflicting information.

Thank you in advance!!

-David

Hi chorchie: from what I understand the "Ideal Complete" isn't actually necessary, but can be convenient if you work early and don't have time to make a proper breakfast, or are on a trip and can't get to a proper breakfast. Don't waste your money if you don't need to. Of course, IP would prefer to have you buy their food instead of make your own . If you have time to plan out some P3 breakfasts I'd go with that. After all, you need to learn how to plan out proper meals for maintenance anyhow, why not start now. You only need 3 or so breakfasts figured out since you can alternate them during your P3 stage. It's not that difficult, try a search for the Phase 3 Breakfast thread for some ideas. I don't think any of the maintainers I know used the Ideal Protein Complete at all.

Hi Dave,

Ideal Protein recently changed their Phase 3 protocol to include an Ideal Complete as least once per day - at breakfast or lunch. They have done this because research shows that successful maintainers regularly incorporate a meal replacement into their eating plans. The Ideal Completes have always been there as an option for Phase 3. They are just making it a requirement now. If you prefer to have the "big" breakfast, you can just have your Complete at lunch with 4 oz meat protein and 2 cups of veggies.
