Would week 1 be easier if I've already been dieting?

  • I have cut out processed foods and starches for 2 weeks now, am noticing that I'm not too hungry anymore and can go longer periods without food...
    Ideal Protein sounds interesting to me, as I just want the weight gone now!
    Would all the physical symptoms and hunger normally experienced in week 1 be less for me because I've already shocked my system with dieting?
  • Maybe, maybe not. Remember that IP is not about "starving" yourself, IP is a program that is low in calories and carbs but high in protein - you eat a LOT of meat and veggies through a typical day. The hunger experienced in the first week is really more from your body breaking free from the carbs than it is "true" hunger. And there are tools to deal with true hunger that make it easier.

    If you have moved to a more plant/protein based diet before IP, chances are good you won't go through carb withdrawal - but your body will do whatever it needs to adjust.

  • thank you for replying, what I do now is similar it seems to ideal protein, I already use Syntrax protein powder for 2 meals, chicken/shrimp/fish/eggs & 1 cup of veggies for dinner, plus a diet snack bar at night...
  • I started general low carb eating before starting IP and had none of the week 1 problems most people report.
  • Yes and no! Low carbing before starting helps. The big one that got me was sugar!!!! I have done IP twice now, first time in the spring- it was what i would consider **** to be. Restarted nov 13 and it was easy- no side effects! I restarted with alternative products that are very IP similar.
  • Some diets actually have you calorie load before starting strict programs in order to produce calorie confusion and therefore a greater loss the first week or two.
    I didn't do that, nor did I cut calories/carbs by much before starting. I didn't have headaches or other problems I read about from other members during the first month. Just about everyone has a stall in weight loss around wk. 3-5 regardless of how they ate before. You'll be fine either way and if you're already feeling better from reducing certain foods even before you start IP, then that's great!

  • I reduced my carbs and sugars considerably the 2 weeks before I started and only experienced headaches the first week
  • I severely lowered my carb intake gradually over two weeks, and had no issues the first week on IP. That may not work for everyone, though. Good luck!
