Do you mean medifast weight loss clinic? If so, I think they are similiar programs. There are threads on 3FC for medifast.

Ideal Protein is a restrictive diet. It is high protein, low cal, carb, fat and sugar. The diet is basically 3IP products a day (shakes, pudding, protein bars, soups, etc), and then lettuce, veggies and lean proteins.

Cost is about $90/week if you go to an IP clinic.

From my experience, it is the only diet I have been able to successfully follow in about 7 years. I've tried weight watchers, Seattle Sutton, LA Weightloss, Atkins, and just plain old counting calories.

Once I got past the carb withdrawal in the first 2-3 days of IP, I don't crave sugar or carbs. I still have to make the choice not to cheat, but it is not that difficult.

IP is not a diet you can cheat on. If you want to be sucessful on it, you need to stick to it.

Good luck on whatever you decide!

Ideal Protein is a high protein, low fat and low carb diet. The plan includes eating Ideal Protein prepackaged foods (not just shakes/puddings but actual FOOD), fresh veggies from a select list, and meat. It is a ketogenic diet, meaning the low carb nature of the diet causes your body to use its own fat stores for energy. You can read more here:

http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/idea...t-threads.html

The diet happens in 4 phases, the weight loss phase, 2 phases that ease you back into eating 3 regular meals and reintroducing dairy/fruits/grains, and the maintenance phase.

What I understand about Medi Weight loss is that they rely heavily on "fat burning" supplements, which you need to be very careful of - any time you use products like that there is a high possibility of your body "rebounding" once you are no longer taking the product.

Welcome!

If you do decide to start the IP diet, the thread that Scorbett listed is essential.

As well, glance over this the "A Day in the Life of IP" thread (sorry, I tried to paste it but got something wrong, I think) to get an idea of how it works for many who have had time to perfect it. I am new and it has helped me a lot!

And what Ragdoll said about cheating is critical! But it is easier than it sounds because you'll see the results quickly!

IP isn't really high protein. It's normal protein.

IP is actually very high protein. Recommended daily intake of protein for the average person is going to be somewhere in the 45-55 grams per day range. The average IP dieter is eating about twice that every day.

Yes the recommended amount is between 45-55, but the average person consumes way more protein (and everything else) than that daily. So I guess its considered high based on the recommended 2000 calorie diet, but if we all followed that we wouldn't be needing this diet. :-)

True enough - none of us got here because we were eating as we should. At the same time we may have been eating far too much protein for a "normal" diet, we were also eating far too many carbs, sugars, and fats. Ideal Protein guidelines have us eating LOW fat, LOW carb AND high protein, in a balance that has 25 years of medical research behind it.
