I usually give as little info as I can get away with, without being completely rude.
When people ask I usually say I'm on a restricted diet. If they keep asking questions I tell them that it is a program the weight loss specialist at my doctors office put me on. If they still need more info I tell them it's low cal, low fat and restricted carbs.
If I ever get the impression that someone is genuinely interested because they want to lose weight, I do tell them about IP.
I can usually tell which ones are asking because they want to criticize me. I just change the subject then.
I work in a small office so when I don't go to lunch it's bound to get questioned. I have just explained that I am on a low fat / low sugar diet and leave it at that. Luckily the people I work with don't know about my previous Mt Dew addiction so they don't question why I stopped drinking it!
I must be in the minority here. If people ask about my weight loss, I tell them I'm on Ideal Protein and that it's a medically supervised diet. If people don't ask, I don't announce that I'm on a diet. I do feel it's important to tell folks the truth if they do ask. I would never have known about IP if someone I asked had not told me about IP.
I have also told most everybody. I work in a school and the grade level team I work with always eats lunch together, so I knew it would be super difficult to keep it a secret. They have all been so supportive. They ask questions, but I know it's just curiosity.
But I'm sort of dreading a family get together that we always have on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. You know how family can be! I think I will get some criticism from them. It's a winter birthday party where we always celebrate all the family birthdays that occur in the winter. I can just imagine the looks I'm gonna get when I refuse lasagna, cake and ice cream, and sit there with my veggies and salad. That's OK, I can say "told you so" when I'm nice and skinny for the Easter family gathering!
I started a weight loss challenge at work when I started the program (I warned everyone of my unfair advantage). My weekly weight loss numbers (along with everyone else in the contest) are up on the dry erase board next to my desk for all to see. When people ask about the program I am happy to give them all the info they want.
I work in IT so most of my coworkers could benefit from this program

Oh SNAP!
I have mentioned to a few people that I am "off sugar" (which is true). I explained IP to one of my girlfriends who saw me and noticed the changes, her husband has done Atkins in the past so it was easy to relate it to that. No one else has noticed that I have lost weight, which bums me out a little, but I know it will come someday.

What?! How can they not notice a 42lb weight loss?? That's a great loss and there would definitely be changes to you. Keep up the great work
Yeah, what clo said! 42 pounds??? Trust me, people are noticing! Good for you!!!
Well, I guess I spoke too soon. As I was leaving work tonight, a girl I work with stopped me and said "You are really losing weight, every time I saw you walk down the aisle today I did a double take, because I didn't recognize you." Very nice to hear!

YEA!!! Expect that to keep happening... and then some!
I told my 10 year old daughter first and then my 15 year old son. When I told my daughter how much weight I lost after the first week she was so excited for my and told me she was proud of me (sweet). My son said congrats Mom. They knew I hadn't told their father yet.... I simply told the kids "he has seen me struggle with this for 20 years". Well when I told him I was on a diet and lost 10 lbs the first week (start weight 271).... He said "we'll see".... Just as I expected. Oh well at least my kids will cheer me on...thank God for them! MOVING FORWARD!
Im actually doing IP with my whole office! (Well 8 of the 10 of us are doing it- our coach comes in once a week for weigh ins. We opted to do it as a group in the conference room. Sound weird but it is really kid of fun!) I think i would have had a hard time not having all the support of my coworkers since i spend so much time during the week at work.
Other than the folks here on the forum, only my wife, kids and one close friend and his wife knew as I was certain I would get the support I needed there without the unnecessary criticisms. Now at 58 lbs and over 30" down, my work colleages know (it's become kinda obvious) but I have only told them it is a medically supervised program. I figured I didn't need to tell anyone else because I didn't need the extra "input" from them. In fact, my primary goal is not so much a number as it is a reaction. I shamefully weighed in at over 404lbs at our family reunion this summer, so my goal is to walk into my parents house at Xmas and have everyone's jaw hit the floor. Numerically I would like to break out of the 300's but my weight loss has slowed so not sure I can make that, but I plan on making a visual impact none-the-less.
DakotahDaddy - I know you will make a huge visual impact on your family at Christmas! If your co-workers are already noticing, then your family definately will. "Yes", it will be terrific if the scale shows a 100# loss on December 25th, but if it doesn't don't be too disappointed. Ultimately this journey is about having the numbers go in the "right" direction, even if it's not always as fast as we want. Congrats on the amount you've lost so far and your continued progress

Kate1188 - What an awesome idea! I think it's absolutely brilliant. All of you will be able to continue supporting each other through P2, P3, and P4 Maintenance. How lucky you are! So, do the other 2 office staff not have any weight to lose or are they just not interested in IP? Just curious.....
