I'm curious - How have you all determined your Goal Weight? Did you use a BMI chart, or a weight you used to be that felt good, or (like me) just a fantasy that you've had for years ?
I ask for two reasons; 1, my coach just asked me what my goal was and didn't use a BMI chart or anything, and 2, I've notice a wide range in height/goal weight from the posters here.
So what made you chose your Goal Weight?
My initial goal weight is close to what I weighed before I had my kids. I fully expect that I will get there and decide to go a little lower, but I'm going to play it by ear and see how I feel about my shape and size.
Mine was mostly fantasty, then I hit it, phased off tried it out and didnt like it, so Im back to P1 for another 20#. I dont think there is a tried and tested formula that works for everyone...
I chose a number that was in my BMI range. Once I got closer to that number, I realized I still had a way to go before I would be happy so I lowered it.
I did something that seemed realistic to me. I've checked BMI for someone of my height/age and min is 120. That is like a twig in tennis shoes!
Are you sure you calculated it right? I just did a standard BMI (no age required) and at 5'11, 120 would make it a BMI of 16 (18.5 being considered underweight). According to the site I used, the min for your height would be 135.

Definitely... That would be "model" thin... where a BMI of 16 is not uncommon...
To the OP... I chose what I weighed after college, although I'm starting to think it might me completely unrealistic and that maybe at my height 135lbs. might be my new dream weight....
We'll see... It's a work in progress ...

Mine is at the very top of the BMI chart. Also my high school lowest weight (although I was on the track and field team, so pretty muscular). I fully expect that I will want to lose more, but that will be a huge milestone.
I set mine at what it was when I was in size 12/14. I have a ton of jeans that need to be taken out of storage. I was comfortable at 170-175 so I took it down another 10 pounds to see how it would feel.
Ha! Mine is actually based on a deal between my bf and I. He says we can get a puppy if I weight 10 pounds less than him. He's 6'1", so that's not unreasonable. He fluctuates between 155-160, so I chose 145.
My coaches chart says I should be at 165 but I set a goal of 180. She said that we can make the decision to go towards 165 if my fat % is still higher than it should be but otherwise, 180 would be a great goal weight for me.
Try not to compare yourself to others here. People are a huge range of ages, body types, etc.
Originally I would have said 135 as that was how much I weighed when I got married. But now I exercise a lot and am very muscular.
At 145 pounds I am just under 20% bodyfat, which, for a 40 year old woman, is pretty low. I have tried to get to 140, but it would require even more extreme measures and I don't think I could sustain it.
My coach indicates it is people who choose a reasonable goal weight who have the most success in maintenance and are most satisfied with their body. She would not include me in this group...I am never satisfied!
I don't have a goal weight. I also don't have a "wish I was the weight I was in highschool" or anything because I've never been skinny or anything close.
For me my goal is losing weight to get to the point where I want to be, and I will know when I get there. I'm thinking around the 160-170 rage, but at this point I have no idea what I will feel like or what my body will look like at that weight.
I looked up the healthy range for my BMI and decided on the MID point, (actually I tiny bit higher than that), as that's what I used to weigh after my first child was born and it worked for me. At that weight, at that time, I was a size 4. However, that was 17 years ago, and I'm not entirely sure that I can maintain that. I am more muscular now, since I have been doing some weight training, and back then I didn't have a car so I walked A LOT LOL. I have also noticed that last year at this weight my body was bigger than it is this year at the same weight, so I'd like to end up around a size 6 or 8, whatever weight that happens to be will be fine for me, I expect that will put me in the 140-145lb range.
