I set a "tentative" goal weight - but I fully expect that I will probably lower it as I get closer. My plan is to see where I'm at once I'm close - how I feel, whether I'm happy with my shape, my readiness to either keep going or phase off. I know so many people who aimed for a certain size, then blew right past it because of the way the weight comes off on IP. I'm just going to play it by ear

I picked a weight I was 5 years ago when I felt really good about my size. I spent the next five years gaining a few pounds a year, so now I want to get rid of the 35 pound weight creep and be back to where I felt good.

Start weight, minus 100 lbs, round down to the nearest 5. Setting an initial goal greater than 100 lbs felt too overwhelming, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to do it. My denial about my weight over my lifetime has been profound and pervasive- I have no idea what I weighed in high school or at any of the other typical benchmarks people use. I figure I'll do the 100, and then see how I look and feel, and go from there. Baby steps (sort of)

When I started the diet I set my goal at 150 because losing over 80 lbs sounded like so much. This morning my scale said 155 so I am almost there, unbelievable! I am lowering mine to 133 so I'll be at 100 lbs lost and I'll see how I feel then. I definitely have tummy fat I still want to get rid of. Plus I would rather go lower because it is easy enough to put back on, which scares the heck out of me...

My coach wanted to know a goal size, not a goal weight. We didn't really even talk about it until a few weeks in to IP. I wanted to be 150lbs, which is less than what I weighed when I got married at age 28, (I was 170lbs, but a size 12).
Well, I am 188lbs now and almost a size 12, so for me, at least, it is more about size than lbs. She did tell me that I probably would get to a size 8 around 160 rather than 150, and now I see why.

About four years ago, I was easily a size 5, and weighed 117.
Ideally I'd like to get to that point again. However, if I can get closer to a size 3 (which seems possible on IP, according to the stories), then I would be absolutely pleased!
True goal is a size 3. But I'd accept a 5 just fine.

I looked at my highest weight and lowest weight as an adult and my age, then talked to my doctor. We then figured out a weight that I would be healthy at and most importantly a weight I could reasonably maintain. She told me that I couldn't go by charts and what I weighed 30 years ago because my body set point has changed due to age and past weight history. She said my body would fight me tooth and nail if i tried to get too much lower. I know how I feel now and know that 20 more pounds would feel just about perfect.

I picked 178 because it is a 100 lb loss..I have never weighed under 200 as an adult and I have had 3 c-sections so I personally think my doctors goal weight of 150 just wasn't very realistic for me

I've only had my initial meeting with my coach and we didn't discuss it. I'm ok with that. I'm 5 ft tall, and weighing in at 251lbs. I mentioned about using alternatives, cause I know it's expensive plan, and I'll be here for awhile. Right now, today.. My goal is to just Begin. And see where I end up. I figure ill have plenty of time to set my final goal

I worked with my primary care physician before starting IP. We figured out what would be an ideal weight for my height - that's how I chose it.

Hi J Bug,
Picking a goal weight is something that only you can decide. When I started the program my goal weight was 145 I hit 145 and I moved it down to 140 and so on til I got to the 130 mark At that point my coach told me she felt that I did not need to loose any more weight and it would be in my best interest to move on to phase 3. Now that being said I still lost a few lbs on phase 3 I have been on phase 4 maintenance now since August and I have not gained anything back. I just weighed in this morning and I'm 128.8 so YEAH!!! No gain and under my lowest goal weight.
I think what you need to keep in mind is that when you move on to Phase 3 and 4, and are "done" with the weight loss portion of the diet you are not "done" with healthy eating. This program is not a permanent quick fix to lose weight. Yes weight comes off fast when your on the program but if you go back to eating "normal" when you are "done" you are going to put all the weight right back on. This is a lifestyle change. My coach and I just talked about that this morning. I have had several friends go on this diet and when they were finished they went right back to their old habits and put the weight right back on. What I'm saying is that weather your home on a trip, on vacation what ever, everything you put in your mouth has consequences good or bad. "Normal" every day eating needs to become consuming protein and veggies with a splurge day here and there. Not traditional pastas, casseroles, pizza, burgers etc. Being away from home is not a good excuse to not think about what you are eating. We have to eat for the rest of our lives. What we decide to eat is up to us. Simply put if you want to keep the weight off you need to keep eating a phase 3 style diet with occasional splurges. It sucks believe me I know. I envy those naturally skinny people who can eat all they want and not gain an ounce. I run between 4-8 miles 6 times a week so I can eat a few extra goodies from time to time. I just know that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!! Good luck and keep up the good work.

For my age and height, the higher end of the range of "ideal healthy weight" is 146 lbs. I picked 150 as my goal. I don't want to be too thin and have trouble maintaining that...I guess I will see what my body tells me is comfortable for it, but for now, I guess I think 150 is a good general goal to work towards and fine tune when I get there.

I am 5'2 and tend to build muscle, started at 155, aiming for 120. Will see as we get closer. For me I want to rock a bikini

I had always heard, for women, that for every inch you were over 5 feet you would add 5 pounds to 100. So, that's where I came up with my goal weight. Have no idea as to the accuracy of that statement, but it's just something that's always stuck in my head. My goal weight also happens to be smack dab in the middle of my healthy BMI range. I know BMI is not always accurate either, but it's a starting point at least.

LOL that would put my goal weight at 140 - my boobs alone would make that weight impossible for me to maintain!
You definitely have to consider body type/bone structure along with everything else when deciding where you can land weight-wise. I know the last time I lost any serious weight I got down to 155 but maintained best at 160-165. So I'm playing it by ear
