Default How long before other people notice?

Ok, so I have lost about 24 pounds and have gone from size 18 to size 14. And I am discouraged. Why? Because no one, and I mean NO ONE, not family or coworkers or friends, has mentioned they noticed a difference. These are the same people who used to ask me if I "really needed" that piece of cake, etc. Urgh!
How long was it for you before other people mentioned your weight loss?

This can be highly individual, depending on how much you weigh and how you carry it. I had lost over 20 before anyone noticed. Also, some people are uncomfortable commenting. You've done an awesome job. Keep it up!

Well... I totally understand cause I totally relate, I wanted everybody to see and acknowledge my effort and I wished everybody would have told me how great I was doing and that it was showing, unfortunately, it does not happen this way, people usually avoid talking about other's appearance in general.

I remember once I was talking to my colleague and at that point I have lost about 40 pounds or more and I told her since I lost weight, I had to buy new clothes, so she replied: ''yeah, it shows that you lost, how much did you lose by now, like 10 pounds?'' so I was disheartened and answered her ''more like 40!!''

I want to send you positive energy and advise you not to even care what others think or say, just enjoy your new you.

Many re-starts failed miserably. I stopped IP as I wasn't sticking to the plan but always try to re-start.

I think it is harder for people to notice a difference when they see you every day. Some will comment and be happy for you and some will be haters and not comment or try to discourage you. Hang tough, you are doing fantastic

Smooches!

last year when I did IP people started to comment when i lost 40lbs. Also a lot of people don't like to comment on weight. there is a woman I work with who I think looks smaller, but I don't want to ask her if shes losing weight, or even tell her she looks great. I have a fear of doing this incase there is a medical reason. I once told someone she lost a lot of weight and looks amazing...her reply "it's because I have cancer, the chemo is making me lose weight" Never again will I comment.

S/C/G: size 18 to 8...75 pounds gone

Height: 5'6"

I started IP in September of 2010....by November down 40 pounds...some people noticed....right after Christmas break down 60 pounds from a size 18 to a size 10 a ton of people noticed.....

The most compliments came during the lose of the next 15 or so when I went to a size 8.

Very few people noticed the first 40 pounds. I say as a general rule not until you've lost 50% of what you want to lose.

My family didn't say anything until the other day I needed a hug from my 21 year old, who didn't want to give it and she said, wow mom, I feel a difference.

Not until I'd lost about 20% of my start weight

My personal theory is :Never soon enough! DH notices because he has an eye for detail, but my mom hasn't noticed yet, although my mother in law has, or one of them (step mom in law), and I'm down 22 pounds from April 4th, and still, nothin'... *sigh* Oh well it's not that big of a deal. When I'm slinking around in smaller sizes , they'll notice

How about some 'tough love' LOL???

Are you doing for others or are you doing this for yourself?? I of course dont know you or your motivation, but have to assume you are doing this for yourself. Getting noticed by others should not matter as long as you are happy with what you are doing for yourself....

Dont get me wrong, it will be great when others do notice, but that should neither encourage or discourage you while on your journey.

Keep your head up, remember why you are doing this, and carry on. 24# is great and you should be proud.

Some people don't like to comment. I don't comment on anyone's weight, ever. I feel like it might make them uncomfortable, I don't know haha

I have the opposite problem...a colleague of mine lost on the program and he kind of got me on board. Since then, when people ask him how he did it, he talks about the program and then mention I'm on it too and how much I've lost so far...that means people I don't even know come to congratulate me for my loss!!! That happened more than a dozen times... Kind of weird in my opinion but the good part is that it keeps me accountable, I don't want to fail ;-) And my parents, wanting so badly to encourage me had this huge reaction (after my first loss of 6 lbs) - my mom was like "OMG...you look so much thinner". I laughed and thanked her for being so supportive. But all of that keeps me doubting that it really shows ;-)

I have lost about 45 lbs and only a few people have noticed. My husband of course and then my mom....she lives far away and visited recently. I have had a few people here and there notice but not of many. I was talking about the diet to a few moms I see very weekend at baseball and one asked me how long I was doing it when I said 12 weeks she asked how much weight I had lost. I told her 45 lbs and all the women were shocked and of course told me I look great, etc. I think they were actually thinking wow you lost that much weight and you are still fat!! just kidding....sort of. All the other women but 1 are pretty thin.

I also agree that a lot of people are afraid to comment as weight is a touchy subject.

After 40lbs folks really started to notice. Some commented around the 30lb mark. Don't fret! It will happen quickly!
